  • I didn't hear the Presidents speech

I do have a very good friend who did. Although he is republican, he isn't far right. As a matter of fact he thinks Rush, Hannity and Beck are to partisan and negative.

He said he thought the first part of the speech was very good. Promoting trying to get together and work together. He then said he turned very partisan and my friend was really turned off. He said he is starting to worry Obama is either not as bright as he thought or is a real flim flam man who thinks the public won't see his hypocricy.

Normally a very positive person, he said Obama's speech depressed him in the end.

What were the feelings of those of you who watched the speech.

If I do, then is it OK with you if I ask what people thought of the speech?

Hey flim flam and a bad economy helped him get elected. Close Gitmo. Still open. Get out of Iraq. Still there. Create more jobs. High unemployment. Dole out money to the financial community. Unaccounted money. Ugly women in the cabinet.....(Ok that was a bit overboard).

They bought the rhetoric now they are experiencing reality.

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate his speech? Do you think it will make a difference in getting the moderate Dems to go along with his healthcare plan?

I still don't understand why he doesn't lay out his detailed plan. I thought that's what leaders do.

I kept wondering how we're all going to pay for this. If insurance companies can't let customers go or deny coverage, they're going to be paying a lot more money. They're going to turn to their customers and require them to pay higher premiums. I also wonder about the preventative medicine bit. I wonder if requiring such tests to be done will actually save money. I'd also like to see him cut the inefficiency and waste out of Medicare first. If it can be done, and if it'll pay for his plan, let's make the cuts and make the money available first.
            Not that, sickos.

Well, if you had, your post would have been a bit more compelling:

"Hey everyone. I watched the speech and here is what I think...."

As opposed to, "I have a friend that watched the speech and he told me his thoughts, even though I haven't watched it......"

There's a bright idea. Let's cut the waste out of Medicare first. Start with something more manageable than move on to bigger fish. Problem is that Obama knows the government can't do that and thus his socialistic program would never be approved. He's got to do it with smoke and mirrors before someone finds out that it can't be done. You can't please everyone and reduce costs.

I wasn't interested in posting something compelling. I was just asking a question. Apparently not many care to answer my question. Maybe they think they shouldn't respond since you obviously aren't giving the Ok to my asking the question.

I do appreciate though you not attacking my friend for sharing his thoughts with me before I had heard the speech myself.

I give the formal ok to ask your question.

Your friend sounds like a nice person.

They'll be able to pay for a lot of it by the requirement that healthy people buy insurance. Mandatory catastrophic insurance is a good idea, IMO.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

That's what I thought, but will it really pay for that much? If most people are already insured, and those who aren't either can't afford it (meaning we'll be paying for them with the tax credits they'll be getting) or have pre-existing conditions that are really expensive, it seems like there won't be a lot of new money flowing into the system.

Well, there are a lot of uninsured people in our country (hence the whole debate) and if you listen to exUte, they're ALL uninsured by choice (and not by exclusion from health conditions). I think there is a fair amount of costs to be made up here.
