Will you try to be first in line, wait and see how it goes with millions of guinea pigs, or never get it?

I won't be first in line, but I won't be the last to get it, either.

I'll likely be directed to get one pretty early on. I'm used to being a guinea pig.

I already tried to get it but didn’t make the cut. I’ll get it as soon as possible but since il not old and fairly healthy I might be far down in the list.

Somehow your post made me think of this. Thank you for my ear worm today:

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I chose option 2 but this is closer to my feelings. My main concern is I'm not going to sit around in a waiting room with hoards of other people.

I got my flu shot on Saturday at the closest urgent care along with two of my kids. We walked in to a completely empty waiting room, they called us back before I had a chance to fill out their checkbox list, and we were out the door 10 minutes later. That kind of experience would be nice for my COVID vaccine. I've been stuck at home for a long time, a couple additional weeks aren't going to bother me.

OTOH, if getting the vaccine will help my kids start back in school full time (currently they're all going every other day; only the youngest in elementary have plans to go every day starting next week), they're getting shot up ASAP.

My little community had a drive thru flu shot clinic yesterday at the school. It was form 10-2 and free for all comers. My wife drove over with the kids at 12:30 and got in line. They filled out a little paperwork and rolled down the windows. Everyone got a shot still seated and belted in.

It turned out to be so popular that they had to shut it down only 2 cars after my wife arrived as they ran out of shots. They are doing this throughout the county in various locations over the next 2 weeks. Seems like it was a big success. Well other than the not estimating the demand correctly.

I hope they would do something similar for a Covid vaccine.

I got a double dose (standard for the >65 crowd) flu shot at the Kaiser drive-through. They had six stations working but the line was still nearly an hour long. I suspect more of the same for the COVID vaccine, when/if it becomes available.

I think I've shared before the Utah Health Dept official who was on KSL a while back - who said that even if there is a vaccine available by Nov/Dec, it will go to medical professionals and first responders first, then high risk folks, and that the general population shouldn't expect to have it available until Apr/May.

With that in mind - I know I won't be the first. I won't necessarily be avoiding it - but like I find at large family gatherings with a self-serve buffet line to fill your plate - I'll probably wait for the line to shorten rather than go stand in it.

This is a good move for a family gathering when you have high confidence that the hosts overplanned; however, if you use this tactic at a ward party, you end up with only jello salad and maybe some dry ham left at the end. Most of the edible stuff will be long gone by the time the line thins out. Even worse, all the people who preceded you will have already finished with their meal and cleaned out the dessert table by the time you get to the head of the line.

Life is uncertain - eat dessert first. Or, at least at ward dinners, get dessert before you get the meal. It's less likely that the baked goods will give you food poisoning.

Both my wife's family and my family generally do an awesome job of having way too much food. Rarely does anything run out on the first pass - you just might not get seconds.

I don't go to ward parties expecting to be well fed. And I tend to go fill a plate with desserts to share with my wife when they start dishing food and no one else is at the dessert table yet. So the ward parties work out OK.
