Considering recent events, what will be the fate of our democracies? I recently had the opportunity to be introduced to these Massey lectures from 1985 by Doris Lessing "... Lessing, one of the century's greatest writers, addresses the question of personal freedom and individual responsibility in a world increasingly prone to political rhetoric, mass emotions and inherited structures of unquestionable belief." I have ordered the Paperback version. The final Part Five in particular fascinates me:

Is oversimplification easier or harder (or rather more or less pervasive) in this day and age? Because isn't that what social media so exquisitely facilitates—the oversimplification of everything?
