Just in case anyone here still had a lingering hope of a vaccine before New Years', the FDA just shot it down:

The bumbling trifecta of the FDA, CDC, and the Trump administration has been embarrassing. But maybe this move by the FDA will help right the perception that the vaccine is being rushed.

And Putin is offering their Sputnik vaccine to the UN for free... this is embarrassing.

The Russian president also said he is ready to give the vaccine to the United Nations, whose offices were hit by coronavirus outbreak.

"Russia is ready to provide the UN with all the necessary qualified assistance. In particular, we are offering to provide our vaccine free of charge for the voluntary vaccination of the staff of the UN and its offices," Putin said.

Ohio sitting at a 2.9 positivity rate out of 30,000 tests.. Deaths have dropped substantially but we still are locked down in an aggressive manner.

Went to an appointment yesterday and stopped at a local place afterwards and seeing all the shuttered doors and small businesses permanently closed is sad.

Depends. If they were at church then it’s immediately. If they are at a protest then they never become contagious. At work, it depends on how high up they are in management. In the community, it depends on how much it inconveniences you.

That site is citing sources from my link but is looking at the incorrect data.

I will not go into the details but the link I used is the true data for testing not the “dashboard” data it is using in their numbers. That information does not provide an accurate account for the numbers..

I chuckled when I read this, but the cynical part of me agrees. Part of the reason that people are losing faith in institutions (IMO), is inconsistent messaging like this.
Obviously, knowledge evolves, develops, and changes with new information, but most of the precautions at my workplace seem geared towards avoiding lawsuits rather than preventing infections. We wipe down the tables and desks extensively, and then pack in the students to fill every seat.
The same goes for church, where there aren't any hymnbooks in the pews (too much touching), but we still sing (albeit through masks).
A teenager on the local JV football team tested positive, and so the kid who sat next to him on the bus ride was sent home to quarantine for 2 weeks as well, even though the seatmate had a negative test.

I understand and even applaud caution, but what's the point of a test if we aren't going to trust its results?
What's the point of learning how the virus spreads (through the air) if we're not going to take measures to prevent it?

Anybody following the blowup at the CDC? Politico story published about how Trump-appointed advisors where editing scientific reports - something that is unprecedented:

One of these advisors is Michael Caputo. He went on "medical leave" when the story blew up. He also posted a long video rant on FB that is quite shocking. He says that he did nothing wrong and that this is all part of a deep state conspiracy to prevent trump from winning. He claims that his life is in danger and he fears that he will be assassinated. He also said that many of the scientists in the CDC do not want to find a cure but want everyone to remain sick and the pandemic to continue. It was the kind of crazy rant you would see from a random nutjob on social media, but this was a top-level trump appointee. Crazy stuff.
