  • Clinton bringing the journalists home

    Good for him.

I'm happy for them. Must feel great to be coming home.

The cynical part of my sees a big movie deal for the two young ladies.

Anyway, its good this has been resolved.
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

This has happened a lot. I don't recall any big movie deals so far.

Good for him and good for getting the girls back. I hope we don't have a bunch of right wingers poo poo this and giving Crissy Mathews something else to ball about.

Yea, I am aware I could turn the dial. I like to watch and mock him.

I'm sure there is some way to negatively spin this, I just haven't thought of it yet. I missed Rush today, so I'm sorta at a loss.

Here's something: I heard the North Koreans had already agreed to release the journalists before Clinton even showed up. His presence was entirely unnecessary.

          Is that good?

Oooh, that's a start. That is actually really good spin for this situation. There is no way that you could construe these women coming home to their families as a negative thing, so go ahead and say his presence was worthless. This is just fantastic.

I think there's no doubt the release was prearranged, but I'm sure it was conditioned upon Clinton coming to North Korea and making a good show of it. So his presence was necessary. Wins all around: NK got a visit from a former U.S. President and the opportunity to show its "compassion", the U.S. got the prisoners back, and Billy Jeff comes off as a master negotiator/elder statesman type.

Of course the release was prearragned. Do you think Clinton would agree to go over there and return emptyhanded? DO you think Obama would agree to have him go over there and return emptyhanded? Do you think the North Kopreans could possibly demand that CLinton show up wihtout committing to this release ahead of time? Diplomacy is, more often than not, theatre by time ti takes place in public.
                PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I'm curious what role Mrs. Clinton had in this. It would seem that this would be something that falls under the job description of the Secretary of State, wouldn't it?

Probably because they can pass him off as a current president to their population.

I applaud Bill for doing this after the nasty things that little punk in N. Korea had said about Hillary. Some men wouldn't be able to swallow their pride for a greater good after some punk had embarassed his wife.

There are a couple of reasons to send Bill instead of Hillary. For one, as a former president (and to some extent, as husband to the SoS), he has the sway to pay the kind of lip service North Korea wants to hear, but because he is a private citizen, the US government doesn't necessarily have anything to do with his actions. North Korea gets to look firm yet compassionate, and the US doesn't have to give in to the terrorists. It also hints at a role for former US presidents more influential than even SNL could have dreamed.

There's also the likelihood that Hillary just didn't want to make that long of a plane ride and sent in Bill, since he owes her one after that whole Monica thing.

Perhaps Bill and Kim agreed on what Kim had said about Hilary.

So they started on common ground.
