The feds told New Mexico to stop their investigation into Epstein's ranch in 19.

Federal prosecutors in 2019 asked New Mexico officials to halt their investigation into sex trafficking activities at Jeffrey Epstein's Zorro Ranch, agreeing to share information that potentially could have led to criminal charges here.

New Mexico lived up to its end of the agreement, ending its investigation and providing police reports, recorded witness interviews and other investigative records to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, former Attorney General Hector Balderas said last week.

Balderas, who served as attorney general from 2014 to 2022, said he is unaware that federal investigators provided any information to New Mexico officials that could have led to criminal prosecutions here.

Cooperation between the two agencies "was a one-way relationship," he said.

Records released in January by the U.S. Department of Justice related to the Epstein investigation, including letters and emails between Balderas' office and federal prosecutors, shed light on New Mexico's decision to scrap its investigation.

The request by federal prosecutors essentially "gutted" New Mexico's investigation into sex trafficking at Epstein's 7,500-acre Zorro Ranch located 30 miles south of Santa Fe, Balderas said. Balderas now is president of Northern New Mexico College in Española.

"We provided information to them to strengthen their prosecution," he said. Prosecutors made assurances they would provide findings to New Mexico investigators. "They were making the representation that they were going to prosecute with a multijurisdictional, multistate focus."

So the previous Trump admin had New Mexico shut down their investigation into Epstein's ranch. Not sus at all.

Rep. James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, has claimed that the Department of Justice intervened to block a state investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s New Mexico ranch in 2019.

The Kentucky Republican appeared on Jesse Watters’ Fox News show Tuesday, a day after a new search of the property was commenced, when he made the claim about the failings of the authorities to catch up with Epstein during President Donald Trump’s first term, when then-attorney general Bill Barr was leading the DOJ.

Here's what I find interesting: she seems to be flexing some independence again, like she did before the election when she came out in favor of abortion. Her statement called on Congress to provide a public forum for Epstein's victims to testify under oath, stating that "each and every woman should have her day to tell her story in public"

I think she did it now in part because Trump is so distracted with Iran. But it definitely cuts against Trump's desire to bury Epstein once and for all (and that's why he started the war).

I don't but the allegations against Trump by that woman who was 13 or 14 at the time of the alleged crime, haven't evaporated for him.

I don't think the talk about Epstein introducing Melanie to Trump have been rebutted either.

The fact that this pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell is even being discussed tells you all you need to know about Trump's guilt. If you haven't bothered to explore the issue, I'd encourage you to and not lump it is as random conspiracy. There is a strong case Trump has raped kids. This should be the scandal of the century. He is looking to pardon her in exchange for her clearing his saintly name.

Members on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are divided over whether President Donald Trump should pardon Jeffrey Epstein’s convicted co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell in exchange for her cooperation in the panel’s Epstein investigation, Chair James Comer said in an interview Wednesday.

Maxwell, who was deposed by the Oversight Committee as the sole convicted accomplice in the Epstein sex trafficking scheme, previously invoked her Fifth Amendment right in declining to answer the panel’s questions. Her lawyer has said that she would only speak if granted clemency — a power available solely to Trump, who has not ruled out the prospect of a pardon.

When asked whether he believed it was a favorable deal to issue a pardon in return for Maxwell’s testimony, Comer said, “A lot of people do.”

“My committee’s split on that,” he added, declining to name who on the panel supported granting a pardon. “I don’t speak for my committee.”

Comer himself wasn’t in favor.

“I think it looks bad,” he said. “Honestly, other than Epstein, the worst person in this whole investigation is Maxwell.”

Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the Oversight panel’s top Democrat, emphasized that committee Democrats unanimously opposed a pardon for Maxwell.

“That would be a huge step backwards, and, quite frankly, so disrespectful to the survivors,” he said in an interview. “She is a known abuser. She is a known liar.”

“If the DOJ or Oversight Republicans are out there trying to negotiate some sort of pardon that is … not only a huge slap in the face to this investigation, to anyone, to the American public,” he added. “It’s a part of a massive cover up.”

Pressure has been mounting on the Justice Department to pursue new prosecutions in the Epstein case, particularly after the United Kingdom arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, and former Ambassador Peter Mandelson for crimes related to their association with the disgraced financier.

The Oversight Committee’s probe’s work has been complicated by the fact that Maxwell is unwilling to answer questions and the central figure, Epstein, died behind bars years ago. Maxwell’s lawyer David Oscar Markus told POLITICO in an extended interview last month that he believed there was a good chance his client would ultimately be pardoned by the president.

Markus said he reached out to then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche last year to help facilitate Maxwell’s interview with the Department of Justice. She was granted limited immunity for that two-day conversation and moved to a minimum security prison camp shortly afterward.

In her interview with Blanche, she emphasized that she had not seen Trump engage in impropriety with Epstein. The president’s relationship with Epstein has been the source of much intrigue, as Trump has maintained the two had a falling out years ago.

Garcia said the Oversight Committee should investigate why and how Maxwell was moved to a different facility after her interview with Blanche.
