• All politicians are hypocrites

Okay, virtually all, but enough that it's the rule, IMO.

From a 2004 interview with then senator-elect Obama:

BARACK OBAMA: ...When you rush these budgets that are a foot high and nobody has any idea what's in them and nobody has read them.

RANDI RHODES: 14 pounds it was!

BARACK OBAMA: Yeah. And it gets rushed through without any clear deliberation or debate then these kinds of things happen. And I think that this is in some ways what happened to the Patriot Act. I mean you remember that there was no real debate about that. It was so quick after 9/11 that it was introduced that people felt very intimidated by the administration.
Exactly as I've said. Rushing bills through the process is fine and dandy when you're in power, but once you're on the outside, it sucks. I wish someone in Washington had some principles.

Is everyone now disabused of the notion that President Obama is somehow different from the standard hypocritical Washington politician, from both sides of the aisle?

Seems like the senator from Connecticut has some principles (Kerry's VP candidate. can't remember his name).

I agree with this. Then again, I don't think I ever expected that he was different than any other politician.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I can't tell you how many people I spoke to last year believed Obama was different. That'd he'd clean up Washington, do away with "politics as usual..." oh wait, he said that himself.

I don't think he's any worse than the average politician in this regard, but he's not any better, either.

I agree (I can't believe I've said this twice now), lots of people said that. But lots of people say that every year. In fact, that's probably the biggest campaign promise by every candidate every election year. Change very rarely happens. Anyone who thinks one dude can change the political system in American is absolutely delusional.

People are stupid. That's why I cast my vote for the candidate who I think sucks the least.

President Obama certainly has a talent for causing millions to be delusional. How many people over 30 were enamored with him as "someone different"? These people have seen multiple presidential elections and plenty of other lower-level elections and never learned that lesson?

That, more than anything, drove me crazy last year. And now no one will admit they were one of those people.

You can't really bag on people for having hope of change, even if that hope is not based on any rational thought.

Obama's talent for creating dilusion is not unique. There were plenty of Palin lunatics as well. There still are, surprisingly.

What about cautious hope instead of rabid hope? Can I prefer that?

Fair point. Though I doubt she's going anywhere, so I don't worry much about her.

Then don't make your motto: CHANGE. That's what people voted for. No more earmarks. Right. No more lobbyists. Right.

I love the people who thought the prez was going to pay for their car and/or house. I recall seeing a youtube video to that effect.
