    Full speed ahead!

So now healthcare reform needs to be passed AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Just like the bank bailouts needed to be passed AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and the stimulus bill needed to be passed AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Climate change legislation needs to be passed AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=103940

Obama has demanded urgent and simultaneous attention to overhauling healthcare and addressing climate change, saying both were necessary to boost the U.S. economy, which is in a deep recession.

He has demanded that Congress send him a bill by October to cut healthcare costs and provide medical coverage to most of the 46 million uninsured Americans. The president wants climate change legislation before year's end.
Is there any multi-billion dollar legislation Obama and Congress want passed that is not incredibly urgent? This is completely insane.

Tex posted this on CG. I thought it was interesting, and a decent rebuttal to the "Bush spent a lot, too and you weren't screaming then!!!" argument.

Well, that would delay it for a bit, no?

Actually, I prefer none of this passed at all. But I suppose the best case scenario is that we actually take a good, long look at what we're doing. Congressmen didn't even read the entire stimulus bill before voting on it. Get it done, give the American people time to read it and see what it is, spend some time debating, then go ahead and vote. This is just nonsense.

So you believe that all legislation should meet a minimum debate requirement ?

You recall that the tax act of 2001 was passed by Republicans in 2 weeks.

Two weeks is fine, assuming the entire bill is written and ready for review prior to that point.

Largest entitlement this country has ever seen and you want to pass it ASAP? I wonder why? Perhaps, because the Prez doesn't want the plan out there too long for people to review it?

How many senators read the entire stimulus plan? Bank bailout? Cap and trade? Or is the game simply, if the Prez wants it and you are a Dem, you better vote for it? Sounds like a great democracy.
