Mueller reportedly told Trump's lawyers the president is not a criminal target at this point

Special counsel Robert Mueller told President Donald Trump's lawyers last month that the U.S. leader is a subject of the investigation into Russian interference into the 2016 election, but he is not a criminal target at this point, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

[And what does it mean to be a "subject" or "target" of an investigation?]

A "target" is a person as to whom the prosecutor or the grand jury has substantial evidence linking him or her to the commission of a crime and who, in the judgment of the prosecutor, is a putative defendant. An officer or employee of an organization which is a target is not automatically considered a target even if such officer's or employee's conduct contributed to the commission of the crime by the target organization. The same lack of automatic target status holds true for organizations which employ, or employed, an officer or employee who is a target.

A "subject" of an investigation is a person whose conduct is within the scope of the grand jury's investigation.

So in other words, we paid Mueller and his hired help a boat load of money to dig up something we could impeach Drumpf with and he has nothing.

I'm sure Ted, like the 4channers and Russobots that inform him, still dislike Mueller, what with the whole deep state coup thing.

          From the article you posted:

Additionally, the newspaper reported that Mueller told the president's lawyers he is readying "a report about the president's actions while in office and potential obstruction of justice."

The Post also cited legal experts who said that the president still could become a target of the investigation – particularly if investigators get the necessary information from Trump during a potential interview.

Nothing yet... of course, Frank says he has mountains of evidence so one would guess that he might have something, like an unpaid parking ticket or something.

Heh, not quite. A sitting president can't be indicted, but Mueller can still recommended that he be impeached. Or as Wheeler puts it:

If you don't mind wading through Wheeler's left-leaning bias, she has been going a fine job of deconstructing this messy Mueller probe for a non-legal layperson like myself. I've enjoyed reading her stuff anyway. I linked to her before in this thread and was met with immediate derision, but I still stand by my recommendation.

Interesting read... similar to what you get on a couple of the better shows on MSNBC. I will have to check back there again.

So McConnell and Ryan won't allow a vote on legislation to protect Mueller from being fired by Trump because they don't believe Trump will try to do it? That's like canceling your homeowners insurance because you don't believe it will catch on fire even with a crazy arsonist in the neighborhood telling everyone he has the right to do it.

                      LOL! No it’s not.

Passing legislation so trump can’t fire Mueller is dumb. If trump fires Mueller, Trump is finished. I think even Trump knows that.

Why would Drumpf try to do it? He is still not even a target of the Mueller investigation.

Of course, maybe he will fire Mueller for wasting all that tax payer money. BTW, where are all those Russians that hacked all those voting machines and our power grids? Shouldn't they be "in front of the firing squad" by now?

What is funny is the idea that the spineless Republicans would do anything other than look the other way.

Subjects can turn into targets pretty fast.

That’s not what I meant. His re-election chances would be over before the campaign begins. Plenty of people in the center want the investigation to play out, including me.
