Utah Senator Mitt Romney Thread

That's nice but I'm glad people voted for Biden. I wish more people who voted 3rd party or wrote people in out of principle did as well. Trump is that awful No offense. And unlike Mitt, Corker was a bit of a coward and didn't do much to stand up to Trump, including being unwilling to vote for witnesses at the impeachment trial.

Hmmmmmm.
"So I wrote in a Senator's name who I thought had conducted themselves best throughout all of this . . . ."
Write in Mitt!!!

Part of me wants him to run again. I truly believe he'd be the best person for the job, and, if elected, he'd be younger than Biden was when he was elected. But I just don't think he could win the primary, let alone the general. Hopefully someone else emerges that is as good as he would be, but I'm not holding my breath.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post
Mitt is doing ok in the polls... he's higher than Lee but that isn't saying much. Utahns have short term memory like goldfish and so they will forgot by the time he comes up for reelection. Besides I suspect Mitt will be running for president anyway so MBN doesn't have to write him in.

It's like he is the only adult in the Senate. Too bad it'll probably cost him reelection. #utahvalues

One of the most positive indicators that Mitt is doing well is the number of truly awful people who hate him now.

i'm sure there are areas where i don't agree with mitt, but if so, it's either been a really long time since it's happened or i haven't seen or heard it. everything that dude says lately is money in my mind.

In this instance yes. In others, not so much...at least imo. Isn't that what makes America great though? Disagreement and resolution. This type of stuff should be the real MAGA movement. God bless Mitt Romney, in this case.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostMitt is simply awesome.

The better of 2 Utah senators, not the one who is supposed to be a constitutional expert:
https://www.deseret.com/utah/2021/1/...y-senate-trial“Five people died with the attack on the Capitol. Five human beings died. There’s no question but that the president incited the insurrection that occurred,” he said Tuesday. “How culpable is he? That’s something we will evaluate.”
Romney, the only Republican who voted to convict Trump in the Senate trial last year, said to simply move on without holding the former president accountable would be inconsistent with the history of justice in the United States.
“I believe that it’s an element of unity, which I look forward to having resolved so that we can move on,” he said.
Romney took issue with Republicans who say a Senate trial would further inflame passions in an already divided country.
“I say, first of all, have you gone out publicly and said that there was not widespread voter fraud and that Joe Biden is the legitimate president of the United States? If you said that, then I’m happy to listen to you talk about other things that might inflame anger and divisiveness,” he said.
“But if you haven’t said that, that’s really what’s at the source of the anger right now.”

A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll found 64% of Republicans in the state disapprove of his job performance, including half who strongly disapprove.
While the first-term senator’s overall 50% approval rating among Utah voters is only slightly lower than where it has been the past year, his 46% disapproval in the latest survey is higher than ever.
A segment of the Utah population has always taken issue with Romney’s position on Trump. Just this month Trump supporters accosted him at the Salt Lake airport and then chanted “traitor” on a flight to Washington.
Romney was often on the same page as the former president regarding policy, but he didn’t shy away from calling Trump out, especially when it came to matters of character.
“His comments about President Trump escalated over the past several months, particularly the last couple of weeks,” noted Jason Perry, director the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics.A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll found 64% of Republicans in the state disapprove of his job performance, including half who strongly disapprove.
