Such an overwhelming result, yet no one (with the possible exception of Fiyero) feels the need to articulate their opinion?

Given the overwhelming result, I don't know that there's much discussion to be had.

Sarah Palin couldn't run Alaska without raising taxes twice in two years.

Raising taxes makes one incompetent to be the Vice President. Got it.

I guess my thinking here is that being the Vice President is essentially a meaningless position. We've had a lot of real winners hold that position, last but not least being Mr. Biden. No real harm comes from placing morons in that spot.

Sure, Palin apparently doesn't read the newspaper and can't string together a coherent sentence on her own, but she was a state governor and somehow I doubt the world would have ended had McCain won the election.

President Obama's resume is not exactly exhaustive. Community organizer, Illinois state legislator for a while, then state senator for three-ish years (during which time he spent most of his waking hours campaigning for president).

As we have seen, he also has issues speaking off the cuff. He and Palin share a similar level of charisma and sex appeal, and both relied on these characteristics to some extent to further their political careers.

I guess I'm just tired of people absolutely blasting Palin for not having the experience required to be vice president while ignoring President Obama's holes in that area. To me, they are fairly equivalent, especially when you adjust for the relative importance of the two jobs they were gunning for.

I'm not being glib, promise, when I say that time will tell about these two. I just know that my gut tells me that Palin was picked because she's a hot, mother, businesswoman, "conservative," and that it was a desperate attempt to garner some of the female votes that Obama lost by not picking Clinton. I view her selection as based more on marketing her than her politics or experience. Obama wasn't exactly a veteran either, but he reminds me of me....I have far more in common with a well-educated and well-spoken professional who is able to articulate a cogent sentence without an earpiece than someone who claims to read "all of" the periodicals, yet can't name even one when pressed. Palin seems vapid to me and I wouldn't want someone like her to possibly be president someday. I'm not saying that you can hunt, fish, ride 4-wheelers and not be president....I just think that the President should be well-educated and articulate while he/she is fishing, hunting, and riding a four-wheeler, given that they speak for us and are essentially president of the world.

With all that said, I think senators make lousy presidential candidates; I prefer governors....just not rubes.

You're arguing that Palin wasn't qualified. I agree. But you're ignoring the fact that Obama was similarly unqualified for his position.

When you say Palin was picked because the GOP wanted someone on the ticket with whom women and rednecks could identify with, then say you voted for Obama because he was someone you could identify with... isn't that the exact same thing?

What's your definition of qualified? Years in office? Number of committees on which you've sat? Years of public service? Too bad Ted Kennedy has a tumor, he's probably the most qualified person in the country. I'm sure he'd have your vote.

The person most qualified to be President is the one politically astute enough to win. We don't choose our Presidents based on their qualifications or accomplishments on a resume. They may argue that "it" (qualifications) are important, but most people don't vote on that criteria or Barak Obama wouldn't have even gotten out of the primaries.

You can certainly have an ongoing debate on who was the most qualified, but it is an excercise for fun and really doesn't mean much, does it?

To be honest, I value experience in the real world over political experience.

But as South Park put it so eloquently:

Don't you see? Every election is always between a douche and a turd, because they're the only people who suck up enough to make it that far in politics.
I guess that's my entire point. Hate on Palin all you want, but she's not all that different from Obama.

They are vastly different when it comes to the question you asked. He is President and she resigned as Gov.

If you wanted to ask a different question, you should have asked it.

They have different jobs. I don't think they are all that different in who they are.

Go back and read your poll question. If you want to ask the question about if they are different in who they are, have another poll.

I can tell you the results.

You should go to CB and study the works of ex-ute if you want to start out asking one question and morph into areas further and further away from your original question.

LOL! Give me a break, 71. Threads morph from their original question all the time. Sometimes people take discussions in a different direction after having interactions with other posters.

Don't act like this is new and weird, though I understand it may seem that way to your decrepit and addled mind.
