My comment isn't about Trump or what he is or isn't doing/saying/causing. Just that I would've enjoyed the battles that the two former resident Obama vocal opponents would've engaged in with our three resident Trump vocal opponents. One's belief in a subject isn't a part of the equation.

Both you and BlueK are all upset about that, but as strongly as you believe Trump is turning the country into a kakistocracy (I had to google that, something usually reserved for SU and wuap! We can agree to disagree that Trump is a by product of us having been a kakistocracy for a while not the start of one) you would have just as strongly responded to those two. They would've been fun to watch. There is no comment about anyone's nuanced stances in my statement.

Are we really still pretending the sole purporse of his worthless travel ban is not to target muslims?

He said he wants to ban muslims. He asked his team how he can ban muslims without explicitly saying he is banning muslims.

A few points:

Travel restrictions from these countries were signed into law by Obama. So, it's okay when Obama does it.

I focus far more on what Trump actually does versus what he says. I think that is far more important to evaluate with any politician and not just Trump. We all know that Trump is inarticulate and often speaks without thinking through things. So I am judging trump on what he does.

When these facts change -- travel ban doesn't ban most Muslims, doesn't ban the most populous Muslim countries, and is only targeted at failed / enemy states -- then get back to me. There is absolutely a rational, risk-based argument for a travel ban to every single one of the countries currently on the travel ban.

Speaking of pretending, let's stop pretending that radical Islam does not present a unique threat.

When you call Mitt Hitler and character assassinate him you are not going to like what comes next. When political correctness reigns and identity politics are used you are not going to like what comes next. We disincentivize good people from entering politics and reward the rough and dirty.

I find it funny that none of the talk about taxes is ever that we should ensure the government is using the money with some level of responsibility. I work very closely with a government agency and the idea of saving money or not spending every penny designated to them is worse than rape. If they get $10,000 for a project, they are going to spend $11,000 minimum every single time.

This is absolutely true. We need more efficiency in the government but that would require so much institutional knowledge of each department and subdepartment that no official has this knowledge. However, if we could be build in incentives to reward employees who use the money more efficiently rather than less efficiently we could probably discover lots of lost money.
