Years ago on my way in to work I used to listen to a talk radio host named Neil Boortz. He’d always have a news story about some outrageous event that happened somewhere in America, further evidence that this country was going down the tubes thanks to the Godless liberals. I’d arrive at work in a bad mood and ready to argue with anyone who tried to convince me things were actually just fine.
A while into this I realized how unhelpful this was on my mental well-being. The stories were almost always overblown and inconsequential. They not only provided no value, but they were actually harmful. I was looking for reasons to dislike my fellow citizens and to be pessimistic. The daily outrage was grinding on me. I stopped listening completely and my life immediately got better.
Frank, I recommend you do the same.

I may follow it. I was listening this morning to an excellent interview of Walter Isaacson (and Jobs, and the new Da Vinci biography I can't wait to read). He's a former journalist, worked in broadcasting, and is very well-informed, but he said his mood and general outlook on life improved dramatically once he swore off the evening news and commentary awhile back.Originally posted by frank ryanThe recommendation is only for me?

I didn’t say you needed justification to start a thread, start as many as you want that was someone else’s fight not mine. I just wondered how you were finding obscure Montana news articles.Originally posted by frank ryanNo. Figured we needed a thread like this. We already have a crazy liberals one.Get confident, stupid

What my deal is? Well, you didn't say you wanted a thread about "conservatives" or a way to balance out what you apparently perceive as an imbalance on the board. Instead, you chose a thread title about conservative persecution and victimization complexes and regardless of whether other threads include off topic posts, this post of yours is counter-topical. I don't really care, but I was noting that to the extent you wanted to complain about conservatives who are whiny, this person was not. She was the opposite of whiny, I think. IOW, my comment is really germane.Originally posted by frank ryanAnd the stuff posted in the safe spaces thread isn't really about "fascism" now is it? I'm not sure what your deal is.
Does that explain my deal?PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Thanks for relaying the kind of thing prophets say. Now I don't feel as bad about missing so much general conference.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostThat’s exactly what prophets say. Not saying you are a prophet, just saying that’s the kind of thing they say.

Starting today, I won’t listen to Neil Boortz (although Sartre wouldn’t approve)Originally posted by YOhio View PostWell, you started the thread. But I won’t be offended if anyone else here follows my advice.

I have followed this philosophy this year and it has done wonders for my mood. Yeah, this demonize-your-political-foes mentality has completely permeated our modern political culture. First it was fueled by talk radio, now it is fueled by one-sided clickbait crap on the internet.Originally posted by YOhio View PostYears ago on my way in to work I used to listen to a talk radio host named Neil Boortz.
