This is my thought as well. And this one can't be blamed on his parents either. Mother died in November 2017 and is Father died a few years before. So a 19 your old adopted kid all alone.

I did see CNN is saying something about the FBI having been given a heads up about this dude earlier.

Radio has been a buzz this morning of AR-15 and AR type of rifles need to go. At this point I really don't have an issue with that. Other than someone is going to have to buy mine from me, not expect me to give it up for free. But this wont solve anything. People will use different types of guns to kill.

I think social media, news, video games, familial detachment all have a part to play in all of these shootings.

You can't take all of the guns away from Joe American and expect the problem to go away. Criminals will always have guns.

Politicians are all about lip service though.

The Marines could take on all the other branches combined and whoop them. But, me and a bunch of high schoolers can eat granola bars in the sandhills and overthrow the government? No way.

I'm no expert on Vietnam, but I did watch the recent Ken Burns documentary. Sure the analogy isn't perfect, but your line of thinking is probably very similar to what the people who thought we could win in Vietnam thought.

A armed civilian majority opposed to a government takeover, could do a lot to prevent it.

To stop school shootings? Make all schools closed campuses, have metal detectors installed, and have armed police present (which they already are at all high schools in my area). Boom. Done. No more mass school shootings.

i think magazine size is the right answer as a starting point, and it avoids the definitional issues that come when trying to regulate “assault rifles.” there’s no legitimate use for a magazine bigger than, say, 17 rounds (to accommodate all of the full size double stack 9mm guns floating around) that outweighs the risk of being used in a shooting. if there was also a way to limit the number of magazines per person that would be great, but that’s not practical. all the white dudes dressing up in 5.11 tacticool pants and playing gi joe at the gun show will protest, but it seems like a reasonable solution.

Which is why I bought mine 18 months ago. Do I have a need for one? Probably not. But when I'm told that I can't own one, because my fucked up state government decides that, I'm going to buy one.

Metal detectors and closed campuses are the only way to target school shootings, IMO. It should happen even at the elementary level. Right now I can walk into my sons high school campus and no one would even question me even if I didn’t have a visitor badge. Sure, it’s an inconvenience, but any law is going to be an inconvenience. It’ll also cost a little bit more, but any measure will cost something.

Increasing mental heath spending is a red herring, again IMO. The left used it to get more funding and the right uses it to dodge more regulations on guns. Mental heath is an issue but it’s certainly not the issue.

The elementary school our kids attend recently installed a remote lock and camera setup at the front entrance. Have to call in through the intercom and get the reception desk to unlock the doors. Of course, the doors are made of glass, so someone could still get through if they really wanted to.

No metal detectors at the entrance, yet.
