    Reparations Thread

I didn't want to put this in the "Trigger warnings" thread, so I figured that this would be as good of a place as any.

A group at the University of Madision - Wisconsin is recommending that black students be able to attend college free. No room/board, no tuition, zero fees. The reasoning behind it? Blacks were banned from the University during the slavery era.

The student government at the University of Wisconsin-Madison said on Wednesday that black students should be offered free tuition and housing because blacks were legally barred from education during slavery and university remains out of reach for black students today.

I did laugh at the random Chinese grad student at the end of the article. "Why would I want something for free? Why shouldn't I have to work for it?" Better watch out bro, some folks are going to be super pissed.

But the whole reparations thing has always been interesting to me. Slavery has been banned since 1865. I understand segregation lasted until 1964, almost 100 years later. And I know that racism still exists today.

But how long should someone pay for the sins of the past? Literally no on living in the United States now has owned a slave.

Plus you support oil and energy exploration, production and delivery. I have not researched in detail, but I thought the pipeline goes under the lake where there is already a pipeline. Am I mistaken?

Speaking of standing rock, I found it hilarious that the folks protesting the pipeline because of its effect on the environment didn't think to clean up after themselves.

Officials fear the camp near the Cannonball River will soon flood due to warm weather and rapid snowmelt. They worry trash and debris left behind by people who have left in recent weeks might pollute the Missouri River and other nearby waterways.

“With the amount of people that have been out there and the amount of estimated waste and trash out there, there is a good chance it will end up in the river if it is not cleaned up,” Corps spokesman Capt. Ryan Hignight said.

Local and federal officials estimate there’s enough trash and debris in the camp to fill about 2,500 pickup trucks. Garbage ranges from trash to building debris to human waste, according to Morton County Emergency Manager Tom Doering.
Federal and state officials announced plans Wednesday to accelerate cleanup at a camp in southern North Dakota that has housed hundreds and sometimes thousands of Dakota Access pipeline opponents.

I think you are confusing me with Moli... I support nuclear energy exploration (e.g., Compact Fusion) and things like hydrogen cars that water flowers...
