I've seen firsthand the negative effects of soldier misconduct. Our engineer battalion spent a year in Baghdad working on various projects that built a rapport with the people there--rebuilding schools, repairing the 14th of July suspension bridge, repairing the city zoo, etc. This scandal hit just before we came back home, and our rapport with the people was gutted. It felt like all of the good work and good will that we worked so hard to do was undone.

I have a lot of empathy and love for my brothers and sisters who put it all on the line, and experience the horrors of war. The military justice system is fair because a jury of your peers are the ones best qualified to pass judgement on your actions as a soldier. I'm sickened by what's going on right now to undercut the UCMJ.

Another point on actions of US soldier affecting the view of the local populus

My brother was an assistant defense attache at the Egyptian embassy when the news of the abuses at Abu Greb broke. He says that before the news broke the Egyptian street was generally in favor of what the US was doing. After it was almost unanimously opposed

Personally I never served in combat (thank God - too young for Viet Nam and too old for the Gulf), but I generally support the decisions of the military justice system. That said I think the conviction for taking a picture with a dead body was a bit much

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

I am guessing that Baron is too busy with basketball... That 13 year old is tall:

Yeah, he has shot up there in the past year. He has good tall genes.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Both I suppose since both are farily tall. But moreso, Baron. His mom is tall as well, which seems to supercharge tall genes.

I proudly voted for Kyrsten Sinema. I will say that ad is misleading where it says she lost 'badly' it was actually pretty down to the wire. But I can't stand McSally- worthless Trump Tool.

                          • Virginia Repubs are in turmoil; some are even thinking of seceding and moving to West Virginia.

West Virginia’s governor to Virginia counties: Leave your blue state and join West Virginia

The state has been trending Dem for the past 15 years, but Trump's presidency had a big impact on the Northern Virginia suburbs, pushing them further into the Blue. The Dems now control the statehouse, the senate, and the house in the state. Repubs are not taking it well.

“The threat from the radical left is real and spreading across the country. We have a rare opportunity to make history in our time by pushing back against tyranny,” Falwell said. He recalled that Kentucky was once part of Virginia and became its own state shortly after the American Revolution, and that West Virginia broke away from Virginia. “I hope history will also record, one day, how Virginia divided once again in our day.”

Falwell also proposed a more extreme alternative, which he said he has floated to “high-level folks in the federal government” but knows is not feasible: disenfranchising an enormous swath of Northern Virginia, by making any area where federal workers or contractors reside part of the District instead of Virginia.

The federal district with no vote in Congress or a state legislature, he said, should include “10 times” more suburban area than just Alexandria and Arlington — which a Republican state legislator recently proposed should be part of the District rather than vote in Virginia, although the jurisdictions form a significant part of Virginia’s tax base. “You have people intended by the founders to be in a federal district and not voting in any state, because they had a conflict of interest, voting in Virginia. That’s really what’s taken control of Virginia over from its residents,” Falwell said.
                            Falwell is such a nut.

Here's a suggestion. Quit being Trump-ass kissers and return to more reasonable, traditional Repub territory.

Traditional Repub territory is long gone. Perhaps when the likes of Bolton are repudiated instead of extolled as a "foreign policy expert" we can get back some sanity in the Republican party... but probably asking too much. Until then, we get/deserve Trump.
