Putin wasn't that bad towards the US at first. He got offended when Bush insisted on putting the missiles in eastern Europe. I don't think Bush was trying to insult Russia and he actually did think they were for defense against middle eastern terrorists, but from Russia's perspective their reaction made some sense I think. -
