  • Another attack in France - "Dozens" killed

A truck plowed into a crowd during Bastille Day celebrations. Due to the timing of the incident and the number of people killed, authorities are calling this a planned attack. Police reportedly exchanged gunfire with the driver/occupants of the truck.

Dozens of people have been killed and many more were injured after a truck plowed into a crowd in Nice, France during Bastille Day celebrations.

The local police prefect has confirmed that least 30 people were dead and over 100 were injured in the crash, Reuters reported, citing BFM TV.

BFM also said that authorities have classified the incident as an “attack.”

I'm looking at the links on Drudge, so grain of salt, but there's smoke at the Eiffel Tower and hostages at a restaurant. Supposedly it's 60+ dead from the truck right now.

I remember being around some of the crowds building in Times Square at New Years ten years ago and imagining the mass of carnage that could result from any number of things a terrorist could do -- it wouldn't even necessarily require a bomb. Driving a massive semi-truck full speed into something like that would be horrifying.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

The Eiffel Tower isn't in Nice.

Solid point, but I think he's referencing the possibility of multiple attacks.

I saw one report that ISIS is claiming responsibility.

This one hits close to home. I did a summer semester of law school in Nice in 2006. Some of our happiest memories are from that trip, and we have many friends there. Our hotel was just two blocks from the Promenade des Anglais, and we were in that very spot watching fireworks for Bastille Day ten years ago this day. The entire world is vulnerable to extremist idiots.

Looks like Nice attack was planned over months with help of others.

                    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
