Still a dumb idea. We already have a child care credit.

True, it’s more like Medicare but for child care.

Why is it that the Dems response to every problem in the world is to throw government money at it? It would be nice to have a little more pragmatism to go with the liberalism. Throwing money at this problem doesn’t begin to fix the root issues that are causing it.

Because they are the only party willing to negotiate. Start high and end up with a good deal in the end. I learned that from reading "Art of the Deal".

For low income people, it's not unusual for child care to wipe out the financial benefits of having a job. We need more funding to help those folks out.

Speaking of spending, why do Republicans add so much to the national deficit?

Also, what do you think can be done for child care?

Totally. And they are just obstructionists when the Repubs have a good idea like THE WALL which will only cost $5-$20 billion and will totally solve immigration problem.

Yeah. Seems similar to the Universal Pre-K stuff that Hillary was selling when she ran in 2008.

Reduce defense spending and massively reform entitlements. If you can find people on both sides willing to strike that bargain, maybe we can avoid the coming fiscal tsunami.

How likely do you think that is?

Edit: sorry I read that as what can be done about spending. But that is the only real issue anyway. All this other crap: walls, child care, whatever, wont matter if we cant fix our spending.

Senator Amy Klobuchar was hungry, forkless and losing patience.

An aide, joining her on a trip to South Carolina in 2008, had procured a salad for his boss while hauling their bags through an airport terminal. But once onboard, he delivered the grim news: He had fumbled the plastic eating utensils before reaching the gate, and the crew did not have any forks on such a short flight.

What happened next was typical: Ms. Klobuchar berated her aide instantly for the slip-up. What happened after that was not: She pulled a comb from her bag and began eating the salad with it, according to four people familiar with the episode.

Then she handed the comb to her staff member with a directive: Clean it.

                        • I admire the pragmatism in using a comb as a fork.

                            • This poll from yesterday shows Trump running basically even against Biden, Sanders or O'Rourke in Texas. It shows Trump with a 5-7 point lead over Castro, Harris and Warren.

                              https://poll.qu.edu/texas/release-detail?ReleaseID=2602

In Texas, historically, an incumbent Republican president should be at least 15-20 points ahead of any democrat at approximately 18 months before the election. A lot is made about how 80-90% of Republicans approve of Trump. What is really lost in that is that while Trump is loved by his true believers, at the same time he has driven a lot of people out of the party.
