I am seriously going to defend that I don't like Sherman. Imagine the grievances of your ancestors had the Utah War gotten bloodier than it did. Imagine how you might feel towards the commanders reading your family's journals and knowing their stories.

Their husbands and sons were conscripted and killed, leaving them with children and crops and land. Carpetbaggers stole all that was left after the war. They never owned slaves; hell some of them came to America as slaves of a sort. I can accept that the war needed to be fought and that the outcome was just.
