BTW, one of the biggest logistical issues faced by Sherman was the thousands of slaves who escaped amidst the march and started following his army. Feeding them and protecting them became incredibly burdensome but he knew that turning them back would result in most of them being killed by Southerners.
Cool story, but that's completely immaterial. It's already been established that none of those slaves belonged to Wuap's ancestors.

I am seriously going to defend that I don't like Sherman. Imagine the grievances of your ancestors had the Utah War gotten bloodier than it did. Imagine how you might feel towards the commanders reading your family's journals and knowing their stories.

My ancestors who suffered under Sherman were not slave holders, they were poor farmers in the Piedmont who were left destitute by Yankee pilfering. Their husbands and sons were conscripted and killed, leaving them with children and crops and land. Carpetbaggers stole all that was left after the war. The McKissicks, the McKendricks, the Coles, the Carters, the Carpenters, the Buckners, the Greystokes. Those are my kin. They never owned slaves; hell some of them came to America as slaves of a sort. I can accept that the war needed to be fought and that the outcome was just. And I can accept that Sherman needed to do what he did, and you can accept that I can hate the motherfucker for what he did to my family.

Long memories have good and bad effects. In this case, a long memory has been to the detriment of many.

          I see.

I am guessing your family loathes John C. Calhoun and Jefferson Davis.

Your damned right Jefferson Davis and all those other Low Country and Tidewater bastards are hated. ZEBULON BAIRD VANCE and JOE BROWN kept my kin alive while those men tried to get them killed as they supped at their mansions in Biloxi.

I plagiarized, eh? I siphoned info but did not cut n paste. Had I done that I would have buried your crazy position under a mountain of wiki evidence.
