  • Utah politicians do/say the darndest things

I haven't seen a thread dedicated to the insanity of Utah politics. I guess I could have searched "Chris Buttars" and found an old thread. If there is a thread, I fully expect donuthole to find it, mock me, and ask for it to be merged.

The latest insanity for the fine Utah elected officials.

20-6 the Utah Senate votes to call for congress to repeal the 17th Amendment.

Why is that so weird? I get that you might really like the 17th amendment, but it the 17th amendment doesn't invoke the same emotion as many other Amendments. If it were the 13th amendment, that would be concerning. The 17th, not so much.

I would vote to repeal the 17th Amendment in a heartbeat.

more constitutional analysis, a la funk. this time, an impassioned defense of the 17th amendment. stay tuned for tomorrow's discussion, in which funk will argue passionately against any compromise of the 3rd amendment.

I'm more concerned that we elect positions like Attorney General, Sheriff, judges etc.. That makes very little sense to me.

Utahns don't elect judges, do they? Just retention elections.

I believe this is correct. I was talking about the principle across the country more than Utah's specific practices.

                    Nevada elects judges. It sucks.

It won't have the passion of your arguments to repeal the 19th Amendment.
