    San Bernardino Shooting

    Maybe we need a mass shooting thread. But this one seems to have broken the mold. There appears to have been multiple shooters and then the guys sped away in an SUV. So it appears like something different from some lone teenager/20 something omega male intent on killing people and then himself.

    The political conclusions that people immediately jump to is sad. The libs didn't waste any time letting everyone know a Planned Parenthood clinic was a couple miles away. Conservatives immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was Islamic terrorism. The latter could still be true -- though there are no reports of that -- but the former is a stupid insinuation that has nothing to do with the shooting.
    Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

    I'm pretty jaded but I was sick when I heard this news today. Not as bad as I hurt after Newtown but much worse than normal. I can't wrap my head around people targeting a place like that.

      According to LA Times, the shooting seems to be related to a holiday party that was taking place at the location of the shooting.

        Apparently, this was the holiday party before the tragedy. Awful.

        EDIT: I just noticed that the date is from Monday, so obviously not the same party.

          That seems weird that someone would get pissed off and run home put on body armor, grab a couple willing and ready friends and start shooting. Just horrific.

              Clearly, the news conference makes that holiday party tiff seem less likely.
              A senior federal official who is monitoring the case said investigators believe one of the shooters left the party after getting into an argument and returned with one or two armed companions. Local officials, at an evening news conference, said it was not clear if the people involved in the dispute were the same people involved in the shooting.
              Terrorism has not been ruled out yet.

                      2 suspects dead. 1 in custody. One was a woman and one is named Sayed Farook.

                        My wife is friends with a lady who is a therapist at the regional center where the shooting occurred. She was out doing in-home visits today, but one of her colleagues, whom my wife knows as well, was in the building when the shootings occurred.

                          Agreed. The only scenario I could imagine is that one of the shooters was there to make sure his target(s) were there as well. Then again, who knows? Crazy people do crazy things.

                              So it's pretty obvious that this was a terrorist attack now. Remains to be seen if the shooters are connected to any other groups or acted alone.
