  • The hunt for Dylann Roof

We all know the story now, and it's awful. The death toll isn't as high as Columbine or Newtown, but it deserves to be ranked with them.

It appears as if this kid snapped a while back like the kid in Newtown and the kid at the movie theatre in Colorado. As I said after that massacre, they need to start doing psych evaluations for anyone owning a gun or living in the home where one is present. Once every couple years. Perhaps once only every five years when it's just a single shot rifle or revolver. It's not perfect, but it probably would have prevented Newtown and perhaps this massacre.

But I can almost guarantee this kid had some guns that could discharge plenty of rounds before having to reload.

The hunt for this kid won't last long. They know who he is and they have a name. If I had to guess, there's a better than 50% chance this kid won't be alive after another 72 hours or so. He'll kill himself or it will be suicide by cop.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Here is an idea....we don't let dudes who look like this own guns. Pretty sure we could have all seen this coming.

Is he trying to look like Anton Chigurh or are those just 'bama bangs?

The thing is, it's the hair that really gave him away from that security camera shot (that, and perhaps they picked up the license plate in the shot).

The other thing is this kid started wearing a jacket with the apartheid flags on it. His dad apparently gave him a gun for his birthday. Was the dad aware of this? Also considering the drug abuse, why would his dad do that?

          He's already in police custody.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

This individual is going to be treated poorly in federal prison but that is just a guess.

It was announced that they found this asshole about a minute after I typed the title of this thread. So much for a "hunt."

The list of mentally ill mass shooters who got their guns from their parents is shockingly long. It seems like instead of gun control we need parents to be more careful.

Sounds like you played a pivotal role. I appreciated John Stewart's opening remarks last night. This will be the hardest part to replace with the new host.

Then there's the Texas NRA guy taking some heat for blaming the pastor for not being in position to protect his congregation.
I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

Blaming victims is always so classy.

Dylann Roof appeared in court today and the victims families got a chance to speak to him. One by one they told him that they forgive him. That's incredible.

The judge also asked everyone to be considerate of his family. They are victims too.

The DesNews hits the nail on the head in this editorial that claims Roof's action are an assault on religious freedom. I guess when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail...

Regardless of the motives of alleged shooter Dylann Roof — whether he had a hatred for black people (as witnesses said he proclaimed just before the crime) or for religious people, was acting out orders from some larger terrorist organization or acted as a result of an untreated mental illness — this mass murder should prompt a recommitment to protect houses of worship as sanctuaries and religious expression in general.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

The implicit suggestion that the 'assault' on Mormonism by teh gays is related to the shootings in Charleston is one of the more offensive things I've read lately.
