I feel so much better now. What a shining beacon of moral clarity the party of Lincoln is!

Haha, nope. He said after Kavanagh was confirmed that it followed the tradition of different parties controlling the White House and the Senate. And just on Tuesday he said "we'd fill it."

I would go so far as to say the GOP would fill it even after the election before Biden's inauguration, where senators had to hold a special session over their holiday recess.

Someone smarter than me please remind me why it’s a bad idea to stop idolizing individual SC justices, alternatively hoping for longevity/salivating over an opening, mythologizing a presidential win as a potential to remake a SCOTUS (and the country) for a generation, by supporting term limits for SC justices.

Stagger terms. Each presidential term gets to pick 1-2 new justices. How come we we don’t want presidents to become political/cultural dinosaurs by imposing term limits, but we encourage it in the SCOUTS?

I wish Justice Ginsburg the best of health, but if she were to leave her position on, say, January 10th, I wouldn't be surprised to see the fastest hearing and confirmation vote in Senate history. Meanwhile, I suspect the DNC has take steps to tear up her DNR.

Yep. Or maybe somehow keep her death secret until after the inauguration.

Yes it would. I think the only way she is leaving the Supreme Court before January is in a hearse.

I have not paid much attention to SCOTUS dynamics. But I think some of the ideological shifts of recent years to be fascinating. Kennedy moving right, Roberts moving left. Two of the new justices voting with the left on issues that we all assumed they'd be conservative on. Interesting stuff.

How is nominating 1 justice per 4 year term going to stack a court? If he’s lucky I guess that one justice will be a deciding vote in a historic decision. But then the next president gets the same chance to balance the court back. You still have to win a senate vote, which decreases the chance of a hard right/left justice.

Having term limits for SC justices is not a perfect solution. But I think it would be a better system than what we have now.

Gonna need a little help with this one. Did you post this because you think it's a good idea to have the mechanism to remove judges, and SC limited terms would be similar?

There's already a process for removing Supreme Court justices from their positions. It's the same as for presidents of the CoJCoLDS. If they start to lead the people away, God strikes them down.
