Don't you see that that is exactly the problem? If you can't possibly prove or disprove something like this, then Cardiac is right. It is grossly unfair and could be misused against anyone, regardless of circumstances. That doesn't disturb you?

      • CMBF is right, unless there is a lot of info being withheld, I'm shocked Ronan Farrow would put his name on this. He has done some very good work and is pretty universally respected for it but he risks partially discrediting himself if he doesn't come with more backup. Everyone hates trump (myself inclided) but people are potentially sacrificing a lot here just to try to tank one nominee. Seems like there is no long term strategy at all. And cardiac is right it will get Trump reelected

Also, much like when Harry Reid first used the nuclear option, these Dem tactics will permanently damage the process in the end. I dont think we are far from doing away with hearings all together and just pushing the nominee to the floor for an up or down vote. Honestly if I were up for the job, that is the only way I would accept the nomination in the current climate.

Cardiac shouldn't say he knows it's made up. He doesn't know that. The idea of allegations from years ago damaging reputations, yes that is scary, but I still want to hear what these women say.

          • This is like the crazy Ed Whelan stuff from the other night, if BK had any hand in coming up with that theory and just decided to throw some guy under the bus to get his confirmation across the finish line, that would be disqualifying.

The developments tonight, the crazy New Yorker piece along with Feinstein attempting to use it to stall again (and get more crackpots to come through the woodwork) is a level of mendacity rarely seen. This is really awful. Even if BK withdrew because of the stress on his family, this stain would persist, how does he maintain the stature to sit on the DC Circuit Court?

I trust that people like Jeff Flake and Susan Collins are fair-minded people and they can see this for what it is, you would hope.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I have defended Flake a lot recently. I really hope he rises above all these shenanigans. If not, his legacy is tainted.

              • Part of me wants Kav (who is conservative but not crazy conservative) to bow out and then have a very conservative person nominated and confirmed. Maybe then the Dems will learn.

They vilified Romney in 2012 only to end up with Trump in 2016. They are deserving everything they are getting and more.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

The GOP has to stick with him through the end. If not, his reputation (and likely his seat on the DC Circuit) is ruined as the result of uncorraberated accusations from political actors. There is no other way.

That and these tactics can't prevail. It's obvious to everyone that this is an orchestrated smear, it will happen again and again. But it also ruins a man's life who, according to all non-crackpots pre-1984 and everyone post 1984, has led an exemplary life.

                    • whoever wrote the op-ed in the NYT, is not doing nearly as good of job of trying to bring down Trump, as whoever the Dems' consigliere. From an outsider's perspective they they seemed to be trying their damnedest to get the man reelected.

                        • According to the author of the New Yorker piece Ramirez wasn't the initial source of the story.

The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer, one of the authors of the story detailing Deborah Ramirez’s account of alleged sexual misconduct perpetrated by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, said that rumors of the alleged episode were so widespread that the New Yorker reached out to Ramirez—not the other way around.

“She didn’t come forward with it,” Mayer said Monday on NBC’s “Today.” “What happened was, the classmates at Yale were talking to each other about it, they were emailing about it. We’ve seen the emails, back in July before Christine Blasey Ford came forward, and eventually the word of it spread.”

“It spread to the Senate. It spread to the media,” she continued. “And [we] reached out to her. After giving it really careful consideration for six days, she decided to talk to [Ronan Farrow].”

There's a reason why they've been cagey on the date. He could have been out of the area for significant periods of time during the summer. As we've seen, they haven't even paid attention to the fact that the three other people at the party won't testify as to the truthfulness of her claims, in fact Keyser did kind of the opposite. She says she was friends with Ford but also says she's never met Kavanaugh in her life. The left is chalking this up as "fuzzy memories."

Well at the same time Ford apparently has a fuzzy memory regarding the date, she won't narrow it down to less than a three month period of time. Why? Because records could be produced conclusively showing BK out of the area when the alleged event occurred. It's the one way that he could truly exonerate himself.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will turn over calendars to the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1982 that do not show him attending a high school party where Christine Blasey Ford said he sexually attacked her, according to a report on Sunday.
If he was such a nerd at 17 that he kept detailed calendars, I want his nomination torpedoed no matter what!
