Biden doesn’t win SC without promising the female AA appointment, if he doesn’t win SC he doesn’t get the nom, if he doesn’t get the nom we still have Trump. It’s not really that big of a deal.

There’s plenty of qualified and deserving AA jurists he can choose from if the rumored folks are on his bench.
Are you saying that Biden only won because he said he would nominate a Black woman to the supreme court? You think Trump would've won if he hadn't done that?

That's the first I've heard it put quite like that. I can see it was a campaign promise he is fulfilling. I don't necessarily believe it is the reason he won the Presidency.

It's what helped him win the dem primary in SC when his campaign at the time appeared to be dead.

In a sense, yes. Trump made a promise about what kind of nominee he would appoint, and kept that promise. Biden made a promise about what kind of nominee he would appoint, and kept that promise. In both cases, those promises purchased a lot of political capital, and given that there's little sense asking whether it would make political sense to do what they said they'd do to buy the political favor they needed at the time.

He limped to SC (limped is generous his campaign was over) he met with Clyburn, emerged with his endorsement and promised an AA female nominee.

If he doesn’t make that promise to Clyburn his campaign die in SC.

This is the soft racism of America. This seat doesn’t change the makeup of the court, it’s a conservative court for the next generation and she’s replacing a center left judge. The only reason people even make mention of it is because it’s a black chick. When Trump promised a female SC nominee, everyone with a brain knew it was a white woman that a third party chose and nobody made hay of it. The conservatives didn’t even care that they shoved her down our throat which changed the posture of the court in record time. No mind that they didn’t even follow their own election year rule and delivered us shit in under 40 days.

Got it in your brain, the possibility of filling one seat on the SC to represent an underrepresented group of people is akin to a third party choosing hundreds of justices cuz political capital.

Not at all what I said, but don't worry-- you're not the first person to not understand what is going on in my brain.

I think the more likely explanation is that Biden's campaign fortunes changed with primaries in the South because African Americans are more conservative than the white liberal voter and they didn't like Bernie. I doubt any average voter, even African American voters, even remembers that promise. But he made the promise and he's following through. I just think it was dumb to make the promise to begin with (for reasons I've stated previously). It was dumb when Reagan made a promise and he ended up with Sandra Day O'Connor and it was a dumb reason for GHWB with Thomas.

I hate that it is necessary for a Presidential candidate to promise that a Supreme Court pick will be based on anything other than merit and respect for the constitution. I hate what we have become, so when I say that Biden did what was politically correct, I am being somewhat ironic.
Got it. I also think it's tragic. It's unfortunate that congress has abdicated its role to legislate and is fine with forcing it to happen via the executive and judicial. I also think it's unhelpful that many of the justices themselves believe than it's OK to essentially legislate from the bench. But that is why these openings are so crazy.

It’s not even a controversial take. Clyburn asked for this, Biden said ok, Clyburn endorsed, saved Bidens campaign.

Without Clyburn Biden possibly gives up pre-SC. He didn’t have any money, major donors were searching for someone, Obama had kept his powder dry.

Im surprised people don’t remember this.

But at least he solved the incredibly relevant judicial question of is CRT taught at Georgetown Day School.

I almost felt embarrassed for him.

Ha ha it was great when Sen. Sasse, sitting next to Ted Cruz, essentially called him an asshole without mentioning his name.

I think we should recognize that the jack-assery we often see around here is partly because of people mugging for short-term camera opportunities, and it is definitely a second and third and fourth order effect that the court should think through before it has advocates in there who are not only trying to persuade you nine justices, but also trying to get on cable that night or create a viral video."
KBJ, per Gallup, has the highest approval since the Roberts nomination. 58% of Americans want her to be confirmed. She had an impressive resume but has demonstrated an even more impressive character and demeanor.

Her answers and demeanor have been very impressive. She deserves to be confirmed. The attempts by some of the Republicans on the committee to paint her as some extreme radical leftist just aren't landing at all and is making them look like clowns.
