Moliere was right that it's ironic Mormons are wetting themselves over the title of handmaid. Eff you indeed.

Why don't you offer up some substantive critique of her judicial decisions or something more constructive than criticizing the handmade title, which is about as erudite as criticizing Romney's "magic underwear"?
Hey dude, I’m not bigoted against the LDS, and you won’t find evidence of that in my post history. So please use another poster’s as a slur for people who hate Mormons. So cut out that BS. TIA.

Yeah, leave Frank alone. He is one of my favorite (if not my most favorite) liberals around here. Good guy.

I listen to his podcast. That really is a big endorsement in my eyes.

        • Honest question. Can one of the liberals/progressives here explain how expanding the number of seats on the Supreme Court would qualify as "depoliticizing" it? I try to do my best to view positions I disagree with in the best light, but I'm having a difficult time with this one.

It is alarming how many democrats are saying crap like that these days.

It certainly wouldn't depoliticize it. It'd be a move against fears the court may start acting like a consistent political mechanism. I'm not in favor of it. I don't subscribe to all progressive opinions automatically.

              • The Supreme Court, bastion of conservatism

The impact of each nomination would be reduced (ie Trump would have nominated, say 1/7 of the court instead of 1/3)
Not depoliticized, but each seat is less important.

I don't want a seat to be less important. I don't want it to deserve less scrutiny. The Supreme Court is our last hope for any kind of credibility in government. It's absurd for some progressives to make an argument that expanding the court will depoliticize the court when the act of expanding the court would be the direct result of a shift in political power. I might not love all of Barrett's opinions, but I think she's smart, decent, uncorrupt and comes by her opinions honestly. I can't say that about many of the other players in the executive and legislative branches of government.

Agreed. This court packing talk is just that—talk.

                      From your lips.

I don't think any of the truly stupid and scary things Trump has said scare me as much as the prospect of court packing. We can survive a donkey-brained executive for a term or two, within reason. I don't know if we can undo the structural damage to the Court if we start down the road packing will take us.

                      • Court packing isn’t new, and it isn’t solely a Democrat idea. I’m shocked:

I am sorry I downplayed your fears. The fact that so many people are openly pushing for this is frightening.

If Biden were to unequivocally state that he will not pack the court, it would signal to undecideds and even moderate Republicans that Biden represents a return to more respect for the institutions and traditions of American government.

What’s the difference between court packing and delaying/stopping judicial nominations?

Republicans held over 100 judicial seats plus a SC seat to avoid Obama nominations for 2 years.

Were you ‘frightened’ when this was happening?

                                Hey stranger!

Yes, I find court packing far more radical than anything the republicans have done. Even FDR at the height of his popularity couldn't pull it off due to resistance from his own party. But I certainly recognize the Republicans actions as a factor in getting us to this sorry state of affairs.
