Guys, the SCOTUS is the least autocratic branch of the government right now. Take this convo into another thread and let's continue the contrived handwringing about flags in this thread.
Dude, this is thread for talking about SCOTUS stuff. Something's not contrived because just because you don't agree with it.

Tribalism. This is rooted, IMO, in immigration from the developing world and the results of less economic opportunity. There is still great economic opportunity but generally only for the capitalist and technocrat class.
I also think that for a long time political elites have sought to delegitimize our political institutions when things don't go their way. Now, in my analysis this is more a bottom up response and they have just been throwing the masses the red meat they want to hear but as folks lose faith in the system they will always look for a savior in the political realm-and autocrats are always the first to fill that void.
I think there are a lot of trends conspiring against continuing the base culture necessary for democracy and individual freedom to flourish.
For whatever reason, authoritarian politics are having a day globally. I'm not sure what the cause of it is.
