This Onion column is over 15 years old, yet I just saw it the other day. It's still pretty funny:

That article I linked to is pretty funny because the main photo included in the column about scientific research into bisexuality frequency between the sexes shows, for no apparent reason, a couple dudes in sailor hats and speedos.

I have blond/gray hair. My wife has brown hair. We are not labeled by our hair color. We are people who happen to have different color hair.

When sexual identity is as banal a characteristic as hair color (note we can't even include skin color in this yet), it will be a good indication sexual identity harassment has been eradicated, and the need for labels will be gone. I look forward to that time. However, as evidenced by the tone of your post, I think we're still a long way from that point.

That's funny. I have made thousands of posts about gays, gay rights, etc. My position has been entirely consistent from day one. Back when Prop 8 was a thing and SoCalCoug was out campaigning for it, I was explaining to my family that while I still loved the prophet, I disagreed on that particular issue.

There was a time I was trying to be a good little Mormon boy and try to rationalize the Church's position in my mind. I was never comfortable with it, nor did I even actively campaign for Prop 8. The cognitive dissonance the whole Prop 8 thing caused in my mind was a substantial factor leading me to where I am today.

Btw, your analogy isn't very strong. There was never a time when people were really discriminated against for having a specific hair color. If hair was ever a consideration, it was because of its correlation to race/ethnicity/nationality.

Sure it is. You want labels regarding sexual identity to "progress" to the point where they are as forgettable and meaningless as hair color. But you can't compare sexual identity, something that is and has been hotly debated for years, to something that has never held any meaning such as hair color. Hair color never had to "progress" to the point where society stopped seeing it when looking at people.
