The damage control these guys are doing at this point is pretty comical.

Yeah, they obviously haven't hired an attorney yet.

Will the masses ever catch on? In the digital age there are two cardinal rules:

          1. Don't film yourself doing something stupid.
          2. If you do film yourself doing something stupid, don't post it online.

Scottie is clearly mocking the guy's defense; labeling him a "thoughtful citizen" was a pretty obvious social cue, in that respect. Now reread Levin's Asperger's accusation. Return and report.

Yep. Setting aside the disrespect they show for the land, these idiots are a great example of blockheads who got caught breaking the law but don't want to face the consequences.

While what these fellers did was really stupid....a felony?!? Sheesh, in most states drunk driving is a misdemeanor for your first couple of offenses and we want to charge 3 guys as felons for pushing a rock over?

I tend to agree. $500 - $1000 fine and be done with it.

That would never happen in Oregon, only in Utah.

Looking at the base, and at the remaining stump, the rock could be put back with a little effort and a cement bandaid.

Suppose someone walked into a museum and permanently destroyed a very old work of art. Slap on the wrist?

Goblin valley is a treasure. There is nothing quite like it in the world. Zero tolerance is the right approach for cases like this.

The coolest thing about Goblin Valley is that you can explore it and walk around the formations. Due to idiots like this, I could see them denying public access at some point.

At what point is it okay to push over a rock formation? Let's say it is only 100 years old, is it okay then? What if it's not really that interesting of a rock formation, but it's still a rock formation, okay then? Just curious if someone has info on where the line turns grey and then turns black.

Tell you what, I would rather some dude go in and take a piss on the Mona Lisa itself than get wasted and then jump in his car and take a spin.

I think that's fair, and I'm more than willing to admit I may not have the proper perspective or the proper respect for the land down there. Don't get me wrong, I do think what they did was wrong and the lack of integrity they have displayed since the video surfaced, pisses me off as well. $500 to $1000 looked right to me initially, but if they are charged with a felony, I won't be shedding any tears for them.
