I know they rescinded my on-campus job interview after someone there read my blog.

My BIL taught there for a couple years- post-Berkeley PhD and pre-BYU. The family loved the setting (my wife and SIL are from Virginia), and he really enjoyed teaching small class sizes. But they knew going in, it was a short term stop; he had been assured (or told of the high probability) of a BYU position as an undergrad.
Buena Vista and SVU sound like a smaller southern (and more relaxed?) version of BYU-I
Edit: I just remembered by nephew (different family) played soccer there before his mission. He also liked it a lot
Seven years ago, I was looking for a job and I decided to go for it, only to have them renege on the campus visit, which no one really ever does--my mentors were shocked. As for academics, I don't know.

Interesting comparison with BYU-I. SVU has sports and they are going from NAIA to NCAA D3. SVU hired former BYU club lacrosse coach as Director of Lacrosse operations and will be in a very tough conference next year.
Is BYU- I considered a good school ? I know Provo is a very good school but have no idea about BYU-I.

My take on SVU is that they don't have good academics (comparing to other/larger schools like BYU, UH, UofU, etc.) but they are probably decent enough to learn something. The atmosphere is very good for an active LDS person and they require an ecclesiastical endorsement. It's like a mini-BYU-I but very far away and in a more desirable setting.
We have a lot of kids in our ward that were looking at BYU-I but they also looked at USU and eventually decided on USU since the academics are much better at USU. From what I hear BYU-I still has a long way to go to gain a reputation as a decent academic school, but for now it's fine to attend as a fall back option.
As for BYU, it is God's university.

I know it used to be 3-4:1 girl to guy ratio. Me and my homeboy visited our buddy (with visible tattoos :shutter: ) on a regular basis for the winter months. We cleaned house

One kid from our ward went from BYU-H to SVU and said BYU-H was much easier in the classroom.
Sounds like USU is doing a good job.
USU now allows for out of state kids to get in state tuition under some circumstances (i.e. parents are alums). That helps bring more kids back that either can't get into BYU or don't want to go to BYU but still want a core group of Mormons around. USU also has some great engineering and education programs.

My wife and I have basically agreed that USU is a great place for our kids. All of the LDS stuff (massive institute and overwhelming Mormon culture) without the Honor Code. They also have non-LDS faculty, which the Y only does on occasion. Since my wife's a double aggie (BS 96, MS 99) the kids get in-state tuition no matter where we live.
I have told my kids that they can go anywhere they want to college, so long as it's accredited, not-for-profit, and (the order is not a ranking):
1. Coker
2. Free (including the military academies)
3. Tuition covered by scholarships
4. BYU-Provo only
5. Ivy League, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Colorado College, Duke, Emory, or Vanderbilt (I'll find a way if they get in)
6. USU
7. Part of our consortium http://www.tuitionexchange.org/partinst.cfm (Tulane, Pepperdine, St. Norbert, and USoCal are in there; a father can dream!)
8. NAICU tuition reciprocity member
9. not Bob Jones, Oral Roberts, Baylor, Howard, Gardner-Webb, or an Evangelical-sponsored institution.
