I'm trying to figure out if you really have a difficult time reading ... or if you are just being an asshole. I was clearly talking about two different subjects in my post. They were in two separate paragraphs ... and I even prefaced the second subject with the phrase "on another note." Your suggestion that no one besides LAUte and myself made a comment about the Church is demonstrably false. If you can't figure out how you are wrong, let me know and I can show you all the quotes from other people talking about the church here. I really think that is a waste of everyone's time though. I never once accused you of bringing the Church into the discussion.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostYes. I'm offended. Deeply.
My second comment (the one about politics that you seem to have been offended by) was not directed at you (as I explained). If you had read the column I posted, or watched the TED video, you would have understood that (as that was the subject of the column). Instead ... you assumed I was making a comment about you, and when I explained that I wasn't ... you suggested that I was lying.
I get that you don't like me and feel the need to only "tolerate" me rather than actually consider what I am saying ... but you really could make a better effort to not look so dumb in your efforts to do so.

I love how you claim to know that the psychological community, whatever that is, makes clinical decisions about this based on PC-ness. I used to look at porn for a long time each day, but the issue wasn't that I was obsessed with porn per se, it's because of the crushing guilt I felt from looking at porn and/or masturbating. If I had merely just rubbed one out and been done with it, the constant viewing would've subsided. Seriously, people look at porn because they want sex. If that need can't be met, porn fills it. It's not necessarily right, but it's also not an addiction in the LDS sense. Having lived this, I know of what I speak. Sans the guilt of trying not to look at porn when faced with the reality of my sexual desires, my porn usage would've dropped greatly because I wouldn't have spent all that time wrestling with the self-loathing crossed with the unmet sexual need.Originally posted by UVACoug View Post
I think the more we pretend like this isn't a real issue, the more people with problems are going to be ostracized and demonized. They will be treated like scum by self-righteous Mormons (and other religious people) who think they are pathetic, disgusting perverts that are going to hell. Do you think that is going to help anyone overcome a bad porn habit? Of course it won't. If anything, it will only exacerbate things (I have seen it happen). The sooner the psychological community overcomes its political correctness and recognizes this problem for what it is, the sooner people like this can be treated the way they should be treated. People who, through their own choices, have gotten themselves into a situation where they can't help but spend hours a day looking at porn. People whose porn habits are impacting their lives. Not evil scumbags that have disgusting minds and that are going to hell. People that need help to break a habit.
For heaven's sake, this is the same Church whose ordained leaders used to claim that ending polygamy would surely send men into the arms of prostitutes because of their unmet sexual needs expecting us now to just be happy with one partner who doesn't share our same needs. I'm not saying that it's right or fair, neither am I advocating porn usage or polygamy. I'm just saying that the tune of the times is rich with irony."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. Dude, the man whose intelligence you're insulting by casting aspersions on his ability to read is a fucking medical doctor. Many people on this site are doctors of some sort or another. Stop already with the digs at intelligence, because there's more brain power here than you know, and most of the people you're insulting are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay smarter than you are.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI'm trying to figure out if you really have a difficult time reading ... or if you are just being an asshole. Where did I claim to know the psychological community? Obviously you didn't even read the column either. Geez people. If you are going to attack me ... at least take the time to look at what I post first.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI love how you claim to know that the psychological community, whatever that is, makes clinical decisions about this based on PC-ness. And yet he can't even read what I actually wrote. Give me a freaking break with your intellectual superiority bullshit. Being a medical doctor doesn't preclude you from being an asshole. (I know plenty of medical doctors that are pretty big assholes). It also doesn't preclude you from being too arrogant to actually consider someone else's point of view.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostDude, the man whose intelligence you're insulting by casting aspersions on his ability to read is a fucking medical doctor. And I'm sure as an emergency room doctor he has tons and tons of experience with porn addiction.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostDude, the man whose intelligence you're insulting by casting aspersions on his ability to read is a fucking medical doctor. I'm done even trying to engage you. I'd rather take Jacob and Tex to dinner at Johnny Lingo's house to discuss the Kinderhook Plates, Prop 8, and the Michigan Relics.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostWhere did I claim to know the psychological community? Wouldn't you agree that this thread would not exist but for the church's position on pornography and the disagreement with that position by many people who post here?Originally posted by ERCougar View PostBy beginning, do you mean UVA's original post? Or Donuthole's referral to other porn related threads? Or danimal's comment that porn addiction is still not a part of the DSM? Those were the three posts that preceded your mention of the church in this thread, so maybe you could point out where the church became part of this discussion before your post.

You'll have to ask uva why this thread exists, since he started the thread. I think he claims otherwise, although I apparently have reading comprehension problems.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostWouldn't you agree that this thread would not exist but for the church's position on pornography and the disagreement with that position by many people who post here?

I've never known a physician to have reading comprehension problems, except the older guys who develop cognitive issues because they want to keep practicing in their 80s. But I don't think you're quite that old. The bigger problem is with physician handwriting. Is yours legible?Originally posted by ERCougar View PostYou'll have to ask uva why this thread exists, since he started the thread. Some pharmacists must have the gift of discernment, because I cannot make out even half of what my physician writes on Rx forms. I always double check my prescriptions online before taking them to make sure they gave me what he intended and that what I have actually treats what I need it for.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI've never known a physician to have reading comprehension problems, except the older guys who develop cognitive issues because they want to keep practicing in their 80s.
