    The Department of Homeland Security...

    The DHS has been a waste of money since day one - curse you Bush - but when was the decision made to call it a police department?

      DHS is a joke. Originally, it was supposed to act as an umbrella organization to coordinate a vast array of enforcement & intel agencies. Not a horrible idea because those agencies could use some better coordination.

      However, DHS has become just another agency vying for turf, competing for intel, and generally adding another level of bureaucracy to everything.

                  This. I work for VA and we have our own federal police force but that doesn't make the dept of VA a law enforcement agency.

                      Along those lines, many private companies like railroads have police.

                      But I agree that DHS seems to be unnecessary.

                          Yeah they all have their own purpose and responsibilities. The FBI even has their own police. So does the Federal Reserve, the US Govt Printing Office, etc.

                              ICE is part of DHS and the enforcement agents go around with those cute little bulletproof vests that say POLICE on em too...
