Canada is simply more welcoming to immigrants and refugees and doesn't make them come illegally. Also (more to the point and less tic), Canada doesn't have a border with a country where the wealth gap is big. There are plenty of illegal Americans in Canada, and vice versa. People just don't notice them because they look the same and speak the same language.Originally posted by byu71 View PostCanada spends .9 of their GDP vs the USA at 3.3% Who do you think benefits greatly from the USA being strong militarily. I am curious as a percentage basis what are the numbers of undocumenteds coming to the USA vs Canada. If Canada is great, I would think at least some would keep on moving on up to Canada.
I googled the Canadian tax rates. As I read it, 15% corporate and highest individual rate is 33%.
Maybe someone familiar with Canada can tell me if the progressive party up there is bashing energy production and claiming global warming is the greatest threat to the world.
It was hard for me to tell if college is free. I think it is left up to the individual provinces.
That said, I do think Canada would be a nice place to live if you could find a place where it is at least as warm as Utah.
Canada has about the same tax burden as the US:

Canada's is a little lower currently.
Most of the Canadian oil bashing is coming in the US. All the politicians in power up there support keystone.
College isn't free.
Vancouver doesn't get as cold as Utah, but housing is ridiculously expensive there.

In a tale that highlights the chaos of unbridled inflation, Venezuela is scrambling to print new bills fast enough to keep up with the torrid pace of price increases. Most of the cash, like nearly everything else in the oil-exporting country, is imported. And with hard currency reserves sinking to critically low levels, the central bank is doling out payments so slowly to foreign providers that they are foregoing further business.
Venezuela, in other words, is now so broke that it may not have enough money to pay for its money."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

Bernie's wife appears to have managed that college like Chavez and Maduro ran Venezuela. I have zero confidence that Sanders, the left and the American population could never adopt Scandinavian level socialism and make it work like those small, homogenous countries.
It wouldn't be Venezuela, but it also wouldn't be Sweden. It would be closer to Greece than Sweden.
Btw, there's a real humanitarian crisis in Venezuela now. There's a real possibility for civil war if Maduro doesn't step down.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

"Btw?" Are you serious? There's a real possibility of civil war?

Venezuela isn't Syria or 1997 Serbia yet.Originally posted by wuapinmon View Post"Btw?" Are you serious? There's a real possibility of civil war?

And three years ago there were numerous lefty writers singing the praises of the Venezuelan miracle, and it's now devolved into mass hunger bordering on starvation.
A year ago it was a joke about running out of toilet paper, and it's turned into something totally different. Not everyone is informed that Venezuela is in a genuine humanitarian crisis right now, that's my point.Part of it is based on academic grounds.
