What is wrong with California?

Exactly, that’s the kinds of language that Trump uses to justify the unjustifiable.

I would love to be in the kind of political system and atmosphere where the high ground got you anywhere. But it doesn't anymore, no matter how much we want it to be that way. Maybe we can restore that in the future, but if you bring a hymnal to a gun fight, you've got no chance.

i received my ballot today for Prop. 50 which would allow the Legislature to redraw Congressional districts (currently done by an independent commission) in a way that would likely add five Democratic representatives. The express purpose of the temporary (five-year) change is to offset the Texas legislature's recently gerrymandered districts that will add roughly five GOP seats to the house. The California action is necessary for the Democrats to retake the House. This single ballot measure is costing $280 Million which could certainly be used for better purposes.

So, were you in my position how would you vote? Though I was a registered Republican for for nearly 50 years, i am so disgusted by the Republicans currently in charge that i'd love to provide a more effective check against Trump and oust the invertebrates that currently dominate the GOP. I also think what the Texas GOP did runs counter to constitutional principles and is yet another cynical bit of sleaze. But i'm voting no because i'd like to think we can better than our currently dismal state.

Oh, and Trump is mentally and morally unfit to be President.

Ohio gerrymandered our districts so badly it was found unconstitutional by the Ohio SC. Yes, the GOP gave them the middle finger and pushed it through anyway. I found it to be disgusting and it cleared the path for GOP dominance in our House and Senate.. FOREVERf. Not sure it will ever get it reversed.

With that being said, what California has and what The Terminator did was sound and unbiased way. I would vote no as well.

Plus, Newsome is an arrogant ass who is too busy trying to make a national splash to warrant any victory.

Absolutely. That has been one of the worst aspects of cord cutting. Let's add YouTube TV's split-screen viewing in there. If you go to the channel with the game, the volume is reasonable. When you toggle back to the 4-screen channel, it's ridiculously loud.

Only request I have is that if you think Newsome is arrogant and an ass, give us some examples of that behavior that you find objectionable. People form opinions about others for all kinds of reasons, some based in logic and some based in emotion. I don't think either is wrong. I'm just wondering what your particular mix is.

His free for all party in the middle of Covid violating all the rules he’d set for the state was a massive blunder. I can see how people can be legitimately upset over that. That being said, he has grown on me. I’d like to see him take a shot at the WH, but I wonder how realistic it is for a governor of California to win the presidency.

Agreed. Sisolak in Nevada was caught ignoring his own orders as well, although not in the same public way that Newsome was. I was upset over both.

I will say that he has grown on me as well. I remember hearing him debate someone and being impressed with his abilities to cut to the central point. I think he is a very gifted politician (something like saying someone is a very gifted womanizer).

I do enjoy his ability to get under Trump's skin. Yes, its uncouth for our national politicians to be engaging in meme wars and name-calling. Unfortunately, this isn't exactly unique in our nation's history. But it is hilarious to see Trump's tactics used against him, and to watch all the MAGA followers cry foul.

Thanks for the response. Lots of those issues seem California-specific, and as far as I recall, you don't live anywhere near there. As for his desire to run for the WH, well, he's a politician. Trump has been yapping about being President since 1999 (formed an exploratory committee). So that doesn't really seem like a disqualifying trait for you. Am I right about that?
