I did some work with an Eastern Canadian tech company. They were a formal bunch. Way more formal the the tech companies I had worked with from The West Coast. I wore a tie and worried about being over dressed. They were all in blazers or suits. It worked out for me, so it probably does not matter in the end.

In an ideal world I would go grey pants and a navy blazer with a new white shirt. I'd carry a tie in the pocket and add it if see lots of dressed up people. Keep in mind I worked in sales though.

When I interviewed for my current job the recruiter said, "Don't bother to dress up. Don't even put on a tie or you will feel overdressed."

In the tech world, the old joke is "if you're wearing a tie you must have a job interview". Over the years it's changing to "if you're wearing a collared shirt you must have a job interview".
