You don't pay your taxes voluntarily? Come on tough guy, take a stand! What ever happened to the 'from my cold dead hands' spirit? Wuss.

No, I don't pay my taxes voluntarily. I'm required to pay them if I want to stay out of jail.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostYou don't pay your taxes voluntarily? How about the Cayman Islands?Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostI am a law abiding citizen.

Or why don't you create an account in a quasi-legal tax shelter in the Caymans or Panama. If you are really against taxes, there are legal things you could do about it.

Nice troll, k-dog. What was your point again?Originally posted by KillerDog View PostRobin Finderson referred to the "working poor" in a post. I have heard this referred to many times...usually as a group who needs special help from government programs. Who are the "working poor" what is their demographic make-up? Why are they both poor and working?
I find this phrase interesting because I have known a lot of poor people in my life, including my own family, but I've never met a "working poor." I've met a lot of lower middle class who are working. I've met a lot of people who make bad financial decisions and struggle to buy necessaries because they spent their money on unnecessary items. I've met a lot of poor people who are "disabled" both real and imaginary disability. I've met a lot of poor people who aren't working but I've never met a "working poor."
You're probably right. There really isn't anyone in America that work their asses off at their minimum wage job and are making just enough to cover the rent payment for their crappy apartment and possibly some food to dot their empty cupboards. After all, $800/month take-home pay goes a long way these days for a single mom with 2 or 3 other mouths to feed. Especially with how cheap utilities and private health insurance policies are right now.

Is this a serious post or just another way to let us know that you are rich and don't mix among the common folk much? You don't know any adults who work long hours for crap wages? You don't know any single moms with 3 or 4 kids and a worthless ex-husband who pays no child support? You don't know anyone working multiple part time jobs but unable to find a full time job with medical benefits? You don't know anyone making too much money to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford premiums on their own policy? I can point you to several just in my ward if you'd like to meet a few. You need to get out more K-dog. And the folks that I know who work like that are not the type to be looking for handouts.
Oh, and somebody can be making a lot more than minimum wage and still be working poor. If you're a single mom with 3 kids and aren't getting any outside help how far do you think $15/hr goes?

LOL. "Petty" thief. Let me guess, the thief you are referring to is a Jean Valjean type, a victim of a cruel and heartless society that makes no attempt to help or understand criminals. I presume you view all criminals this way.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostYou are willing to shoot a petty thief between the eyes, but too lazy to set up a simple tax shelter in the caymans? I'm just guessing at Robin's intent but I took it to mean that he believes ilPad would shoot, for instance, a guy stealing his stereo (for the record I don't think Ilpad would do that, he'd probably just kick his ass).Originally posted by Colly Wolly View PostLOL. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

For what it is worth, I have dozens of clients on a weekly basis come into my office that are working but are below the poverty level. Almost all of them have children. I know what they make because I see all of their financial information, and I know their pain because they come and cry in my office all of the time.
I see them in the community working also. And I know how exhausted they must be because I too worked at low paying, physically exhausting jobs, although I knew I was only in it for a short period.
However, I also know that but for a few good breaks, such as being raised in a home with many advantages, and help from a good number of other people who helped me because they are good people, I could be in the same situation.
I am continually inspired by the willingness of many of these people to keep plugging and getting up everyday and working hard to raise their kids.
