  • Texans are apparently not very bright. This would somewhat explain the relatively low cost of living, I suppose.

    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

        Combined with pegging, no doubt.

Texans are still brighter than folks from Maine.

                  • So, we are considering moving to Texas.

Is Houston or Dallas more humid and miserable in the summer? Which one (DFW or Houston) has the better weather in the winter? Should we consider Austin or San Antonio?

Houston has the most miserable climate. I would pick Austin first and San Antonio second. But I know people from all four cities and all are happy.

Listen to the Dude... Houston is usually more humid. High humidity = high misery.

Dallas has wonderful football weather in the fall and it doesn't get too cold in the winters. Summers can be a little on the hot side but that is when you want to load the kids up in the car and head North for vacation anyway.

                        • I heard a radio ad the other day from Gov. Rick Perry encouraging business owners to relocate to Texas because it's more business friendly.

                            • Based on those weather.com links, Houston looks great temperature wise, but yeah, humidity can be a killer.

Pros for Texas: Cost of living is low, salaries are good, no income tax and no 30 below zero january.

Cons: Farther from family (big for my wife), no mountains, higher property tax, too much country music

I read once that Dallas/DFW has more direct (non-stop) flights than any other city with the exception of Chicago. With the wright amendment expiring we may soon have the most non-stop flights. Therefore, family is usually a short flight away.

As for higher property taxes you have to remember that home tax values (or prices) are typically a lot less per square foot. And most all of that country music is down in Austin. Dallas likes to rock (and jazz).

Mountains? We don't need no stink'n mountains. We make maintains...
