  • This shutdown is getting bad... the KKK has even canceled their rally:

A Ku Klux Klan rally planned for Saturday, Oct. 5 has been canceled because of the government shutdown.

On Sept. 26, officials at Gettysburg National Military Park granted a special-use permit for a rally to a Maryland-based KKK group. According to NBC 10 Philadelphia, the event was canceled when park officials rescinded all permits for special events because of the shutdown, which began 12 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

Well then, nobody being able to go in and mess up the Parks is a good thing according to you. I guarantee you the tree's and rocks don't give a crap whether people come and look at them or not. That is the trouble with you progressives. You think you know what is good for everyone, even the tree's and rocks because some of you actually do think you can communicate with them.

I honestly don't understand your response. People should be able to witness their own country's natural wonders in the wilderness because the lights might not come on at night or they don't have public drinking fountains?I can actually see them wanting to shut down just because they are worried they can't keep people on the marked paths, but that's not a good enough reason, IMO.

Even more indefensible is this whole WWII memorial. Yesterday they put up a single barricade that a bunch of WWII vets and other simply walked around. Today someone in the govt decided to escalate. They'be circled the whole place with minor barricades and tape and have par k personnel on hand. This is an open air monument that was funded by private donations, requires no personnel as it is usually open 24 hours per day, and was not closed during the last shut down. Insane that the admin is doing this when they are probably winning the fight.

Yesterday FOX reported than congressional republicans broke the barracade. Today I heard Chuckie Todd on MSNBC say members of Congress broke the barracade. Does anyone know if it was just republican congress people?

By the way people will be able to see the parks and monuments again. This isn't permanent. Sometimes in life we get inconvenienced.

That's nice. Conservative Congressmen politicizing 80-90 year old WWII vets. Yes, lets draw those honored individuals into the wonderful little mess those members of Congress have caused. Nothing like using those men in that way.

Tell Graham to see. And tell Merrill to swing away.

Yes, at least 1 dem showed up today and went through the barricaeds--McCaskeill (one of my least favorite).

As to the minor inconvenience, for people showing up at Yellowstone this week, it may well have been a once in a lifetime trip. I'm not too worked up about it, just saying.

What world do you freaking live in? How in the world do you see this as a conservative congressman politicizing this when it is clearly the dems that put up meaningless road blocks and spend more time and resources keeping them out of an open air memorial than it would have had to utilize if they just let people walk around on the freaking pavement.

You are clearly delusional. This monument wasn't closed in the previous shutdown.

I'm sure they had planned this visit long ago. What a coincidence!

Perhaps you should look into things a little before just spouting off:

The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in. . .Honor Flights, which bring WWII veterans to the nation’s memorials, are planned a year in advance and cost anywhere between $80,000 to $100,000.

Also it appears that is was Obama's admin who shut the memorial down, even though he had advance notice that there would be WWII vets who wanted to come through and see the memorial. A special exception was asked for for them and his admin that denied the request.

So who is playing politics with WWII vets?

                            • Wasn't the last shut down in the 90's? Two posters here stated the WW II Monument wasn't closed during the last shut down. The monument wasn't opened unto May 2002, so they are technically correct.

I'm glad these congressman have had such long running and deep ties to Honor Flight.
