It is a fool's errand because they can't win. If they were going to go to the mat on a shutdown, it should have been over more spending cuts, not the fantasy that Obama will be bullied into scrapping his signature acheivement.

So all I hear on CNN and MSNBC and I assume it would be the same on NBC, CBS and ABC, is that the horrible poll that came out showing the republicans at an all time low has the republicans on the run. Have I ever mentioned I hate the press acting as an arm of the democratic party. Even the "terrible" poll showed the democrats are disliked too. Who cares if it is an "but I hate you more thing".

I really believe the Congress would function much better if we didn't have the "press" looking out for the people and making sure we get the "truth" from our government.

What are you reading that makes you think Republicans are winning? I don't even think Republicans buy that. Follow Robert Costa from National Review. His twitter feed is outstanding.

What scares me still is that we creep closer to the debt ceiling deadline and it still is totally unclear where a deal will come from. Boehner is still looking for a path that increases his power but doesn't breach the debt ceiling. I don't think that path exists and by the time he realizes it he will have to effectively throw himself on the alter to avoid breaching the debt ceiling. House Republicans are nuts and they still think this shutdown is good for them and won't hurt the country. If reality hasnt set in yet it won't. So how does Boehner get a floor vote without being crucified?

      This is scary.

It's not really scary, but I agree that the GOP is getting it handed to them. I'm afraid the next election is going to be brutal. Cruz is an idiot and I'm glad I voted against him in both the primary and general. In fact, I didn't like him so much that even though the line to vote in the primary runoff election was 3 hours long and the race was called while I was in line, I still waited another 1.5 hours just to vote against him.

In searching for pictures for the Houston game thread, I made a funny discovery.

MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS and PBS keep referring to the government shut down. Fox I see has gone to the "partial government shutdown" description. Certainly there is a bias, but which statement is more informative for the American public?

Man I am so glad you asked. There are times I wonder if you really give a dang about my opinion. I feel so good inside right now.

Fox supports my bias's usually. Especially if I avoid Hannity. In this case I think anyone with half a brain though wouldn't need to be biased to support the Fox position. Full disclosure would have you calling this a "partial shutdown" and a vacation with pay for a lot of government workers.

As I understand it, 80-85% of the government isn't shutdown. The answer seems pretty obvious if you accept the previous little factoid.

The more I think about this, the more pissed I am that Republicans tied Obamacare to the debt ceiling. Why not go for more incremental cuts that were realistic? The sequester is not ideal but it has done a good job of slowing down the growth of spending. They should be sharing those numbers and building on that. The current strategy is so foolish.

I agree. I don't get how politicans do not understand leverage. The American people agree that spending needs to be cut. However, neither they nor politicians can agree which spending should be cut. If the Republicans demanded more across the board spending, to be decided by some super comittee which then if it failed to decide across the board sequester cuts would kick in, in exchange for debt ceiling increase, they would have won. While the citizens are opposed to Obamacare it hasn't even hit yet and once again this is failing to recognize nobody wants their money cut. Stay out of specifics as it is always a loser and stay in the generalities of "cutting spending." That is the winner.

Here is to hoping that Utah's new political superstar, the veritable Herooo from Fairview even Spencer Cox runs against Mike Lee and can beat him in a primary.
