CNN and MSNBC are all praying right now that the shooter is republican and if they are really really luck it will be someone with ties to the tea party.

Probably. I wouldn't put the President as being so low, but Nanci and Harry, I wouldn't put it past them to be praying the same right now.

I would. He's no different than Reid and Pelosi.

It is my understand all were as were the national parks and monuments. A lot of foreigners in addition to citizens outside Yellowstone in West Yellowstone are pretty upset right now.

Oh my... Is this an attempt to inoculate any responsibility by equating unstated hopes of one side on the shooter? Sad stuff. Whoever did this and for whatever reasons, it speaks of our times and the radical ideas (right or left) and unfortunate views of the utility of guns.

The really sad thing will be the MSNBCs and Blazes of both sides who will desperately be trying to spin this one way or the other for their audiences without complete information.

Again, sad and radical times we live in.

I understand closing some places, like Yellowstone or even Zion. If they need a lot of staff to run/manage and there is no funding...then I suppose they have to close.

I'm not as understanding of the need to cordon off the mall area. It seems like there is more expense is attempting to make it inaccessible than there is in just leaving it be. And I suspect that this is one area that may backfire on the current administration - taking the closing of national parks/monuments to the extreme seems pretty silly.

I also find the fact that campgrounds are being shut down someone silly. Aren't they all managed by a private organization now? What role does the federal government play in overseeing them? Any? Or is this additional silliness.

Pft.....you act like you don't engage in these slimy tactics yourself. You use any freaking chance you get, no matter how tenuous, to use an outlier example to castigate the tea party and conservatives. You spend so much time worried about right-wing loons that you come across as a loon regarding right-wing loons.

Some idiot republican senator said the following in the aftermath of the shooting:

"I didn't get my Marine sword down to do battle," Roberts said. "But I was ready to."
                  What an idiot.

Amazing that this is now considered a possible solution.

                          • Yes, fire them all!!!

About time Obama gets tough on those union strikers!

Edit: Wait... Didn't Obama say publicly he wasn't going to compromise (i.e "wants to get something")? Sounds like he might need to fire himself.

He can't be that stupid can he? Or does he just think people are that stupid?

Come to think of it, he is probably right.

                              • Well, there is one thing the law makers do agree on... to give the 800,000 furloughed workers backpay for staying home and watching re-runs of Oprah:

House and Senate lawmakers this week proposed legislation to retroactively pay the roughly 800,000 federal workers who are furloughed because of the partial government shutdown that started Tuesday.

The House back-pay measure could be up for a floor vote as early as Saturday, according to Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.), who introduced the bill on Tuesday along with sponsor Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.). As of Thursday, 120 lawmakers, including 18 Republicans, had added their names to the measure.

“Everyone I’ve talked to about this bill seems to be for it,” Wolf said Thursday of his colleagues in the House.
