If Hillary also failed to get 270 then I think, but don't know, that the House of Representatives gets to choose one of the top three electoral vote recipients.

So in essence in order for BlueK to get his wish that Trump not be the president and to not have Hillary chosen either, the electors in the Electoral College could scatter 40 or so of their votes on up to 40 different candidates and the House of Reps would be able to chose from Trump, Hillary and one other person who may have only received a handful of votes from a couple of rouge electors.

Seriously, think about what that would do to a voter's confidence in any election going forward if they selected some person who received 5-10 individuals' votes.
So why not just amend the Constitution and turn the EC into a mathematical formula instead of an actual group of people entrusted to cast a real vote? Are we deciding then that it has outlived its purpose? Was there a reason it needed to exist back when that no longer applies to today? I just think it's interesting that the Founders clearly did not intend for it to be what it has become. But if that's ok, then why not just amend the Constitution? Why leave the door open for anything else than a rubber stamp ceremonial purpose?

One of the reasons it was created with actual people was the lack of reliable and prompt communications and transportation available in the 18th century. That is obviously no longer an issue.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

So let's amend it to avoid possible confusion and chaos in the future. Let's come to a consensus on whether we want national popular vote or a mathematical formula that awards EC votes based on the state popular votes. Better fix it before it causes a real crisis.

I think the bottom line here is that the system was purposely designed to be a mix of democratic and non-democratic components. I believe the EC was intentionally meant to be one of those non-democratic ones for the purpose of having a check on the possibility of a crazy despot rising up riding a wave of fickle popular opinion. But you guys are all probably right that we're too far gone to expect this to work like that anymore. Maybe Trump will be ok. I really hope so. It's in some way encouraging he is looking away from his circle of cronies toward other sides of the party like Romney. I don't think it serves the country to continue on in this extreme polarization.

I don't know that any timeline lines up for it, but it's a pretty funny assertion.
I hadn't read Justin Trudeau's statement on Castro.

Trudeau's deflection failed miserably. Castro had some human rights problems.

And Hitler was just over-aggressive and was misunderstood according to Trudeau's analogy. Castro was a monster.

Good hell... if I was a freak'n Canuck I would demand that Prime Minister Trudeau get a DNA test and then be exiled to Cuba no matter the results. His remarks on Castro are enough justification. What a dipstick.

I buy it! Justin has blue eyes, like his mother and Trudeau senior, but there is definitely a resemblance to Castro.

                          • Mr. President, declassify those documents...

U.S. senators ask Obama to declassify documents on Russian involvement in election

A group of Democratic Senators, led by U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, has called for President Obama to declassify and release more information about Russia’s involvement in the U.S. election.

Wyden, along with six other senators, signed a letter sent to Obama on Tuesday.

“We believe there is additional information concerning the Russian Government and the U.S. election that should be declassified and released to the public. We are conveying specifics through classified channels,” the letter said.

This shouldn't be a problem for the 'most transparent administration ever.'

                            • Shouting match erupts between Clinton and Trump aides

Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri condemned Bannon, who previously ran Breitbart, a news site popular with the alt-right, a small movement known for espousing racist views.

“If providing a platform for white supremacists makes me a brilliant tactician, I am proud to have lost,” she said. “I would rather lose than win the way you guys did.”

Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s campaign manager, fumed: “Do you think I ran a campaign where white supremacists had a platform?”

“You did, Kellyanne. You did,” interjected Palmieri, who choked up at various points of the session.

“Do you think you could have just had a decent message for white, working-class voters?” Conway asked. “How about, it’s Hillary Clinton, she doesn’t connect with people? How about, they have nothing in common with her? How about, she doesn’t have an economic message?”

Joel Benenson, Clinton’s chief strategist, piled on: “There were dog whistles sent out to people. . . . Look at your rallies. He delivered it.”
Clinton Dems are still entitled and clueless about why they lost.

Every time I read stuff like this it makes me so happy the true believers in Hillary are suffering so. But then I happen to see a clip of our President-Elect speaking and remember what a moron he is.
