  • I read a nice analysis on fivethirtyeight on just how many more hurdles trump has to overcome before he gets the nomination. Answer: A lot. We've seen this kind of candidate every election cycle and that candidate has yet to get the nomination. Nothing to see here yet.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I think I'd vote for Trump if he'd cut his hair and end the foolishness.

          The Trump Goes On

          And this:

Notice, this is another telephone interview. No other candidate seems to get telephone interviews on the Sunday morning shows.

Trump likes the attention and his properties will see a bump in value by the attention he is drawing for his Presidential nomination bid. Follow the money.

            • We were talking politics at Sunday dinner yesterday, and son said Dad told me I was a democrat (wife is militant Republican, i'm kinda non-committal/not interested), I’m like “NO WAY, I DID NOT” with Mom giving me fierce dirty look. “DON’T BLAME THAT ON ME, I SWEAR I DIDN’T SAY THAT.” Son says yeah I told you about guns, and you told me that was what Democrats are for, so I’m a Democrat. (He’s for gun control after doing a research paper on it at school). So I said, well there are a lot of issues. Let’s say there are 100 issues. You have to look at them all and decide which party or candidate shares your view on it, and then decide which issues are most important and see how they line up republican-democrat. For example, abortion. Democrats are for abortion, Republicans are against it. Son: “is abortion like when they kill a new baby as fast as they can after it’s born?” dad/mom/big sister: hysterical laughing, “NO! it’s when they kill the fetus when it very first starts in the mom’s stomach.” Son: confused look. “That’s not even bad, what’s the big deal. I’M A DEMOCRAT.” Mom: furious, trying to explain why it’s still killing babies.

              • I would say that post Reagan republicans have done a fantastic job of making sure that the Republican Party as we know it is dead in 15 years.

Younger kids just don't care about the same things that old white men and people from Utah care about.

Yep. Even among active LDS teens I see pinko commie-inspired memes. Only a devout few have picked up the far-right torch of their forefathers. I doubt the Republican Party will look the same after this generation.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Silly Republicans chasing silly groups. However, you by default then argue Dems are doing fewer silly things? They just aren't doing the same silly things.

I wonder why Dems get a free pass for the idiot things they do, but the Reps get grilled.

No doubt you are correct, but I wonder what will be the memes of the Republican Party.

Yep, Rubio is a white guy.

I suppose you feel sorry for poor wealthy white woman who secret classified emails on private emails in violation of law. So discriminated against.

                          • I don't follow this as closely as many of you, but this is my observation.

In the primaries, things get weird with the debate going to the extreme, Repubs going extreme on conservative issues and Dems extreme on liberal side. Then once the primaries are done, the candidates gravitate towards the middle and the debate gets a little more normal.

Then, once a president goes in office, he moves further closer to cooperate and get things done.

Then, the checks and balances system works such that actual law and actual government actions are even closer to the middle.

And this is why I just don't get too excited about it all.

You think anyone under 35 really cares much about the following:

                              Guns
                              Traditional marriage
                              Spying without due process
                              Israel
                              Fighting Iran
Scientists are liberal backed hacks who are faking GW

Those dynamics seem to be in play.

On the GOP side, you have the anti-immigration folks, some anti-gays (but that is a dead issue), Trump and a few war hawks.

On the Dem side, you have Sanders sending the Dems to the socialist side and not much else interesting, except for Hillary's ghosts coming out of the closet again. I don't know why people would be excited about Biden. Don't they remember how bad a candidate he was the first time?

What Obama proved is that some socialist legislation will be adopted, but overall, the money folks will get their way, and small business and the middle class end up the victims of the power share by the monied players. I am dreading the prospects of a Clinton-Bush scenario. Either one of those please the monied characters on Wall Street very much. Not much will get done for main street under that scenario.

Other than being disgruntled over the types of legislation introduced and signed, there is nothing they do that benefit you or me, so ignoring them is a better policy, except to adapt to any new hindrance they put in our way.
