SU is seriously going to be perturbed when Utah rejects Trump. PISSED might be an even more accurate descriptor. But no worry, he'll need only about 25 minutes to come up with some alternate explanation that still makes the church look bad because of it.

our economic freedoms you're correctly defending still can only truly exist in an environment that values and protects civil liberties. And that is the side Trump is rapidly creating a culture of disdain for among his followers. He's teaching them that things like free press or speech to criticize the supreme leader (if it's him) is a really bad thing --"shut them up! Throw them out!." He hates freedom of religion if it's one we don't like: "ban all muslims (and maybe even eventually mormons), even if they are peaceful, productive US citizens!" Screw due process! (4th and 5th amendments) -- it's bad because it makes it harder to throw the folks we don't like into jail...etc.,Originally posted by Topper View PostTrump is a socialist as well. Voting for him or for Hillary is not a viable option. Johnson is not a socialist. Control the size of government. Control taxation. Stop unnecessary market interventions. I believe in market responses to most government responses.
You may be correct because many people simply accept without question that government will supplant the markets, that government will somehow achieve what the markets cannot. With the sense of entitlement that the Snowflake Generation holds dear, people desire the illusion of security instead of the reality of liberty and risk. If we become a one party system, it will not bode well for the quality of life.Last edited by BlueK; 10-12-2016, 05:49 PM.

Neither major party cares really for personal liberties because they impair the ability to force and to compel behavior consistent with their unwritten agendas. Unfortunately, we libertarians are too small a group to influence either major party.Originally posted by BlueK View Postour economic freedoms you're correctly defending still can only truly exist in an environment that values and protects civil liberties. Free speech is an anathema to curators of identity politics. It is an anathema who wants to shout down anybody disagreeable or who argues in favor of safe places.
Private ownership of property is a threat to environmentalists and the desire for income equalization.
Second amendment rights are a threat to the statists who desire to rescind personal liberties at will and to exchange "liberty" for the illusion of security.
Fifth Amendment rights are threats to those who want to prosecute people and to obtain a conviction in publicly notorious cases.
These are just a few, but no party really wants limits in favor of the individual. None of our Democratic friends give more than lip service to personal liberty because party deems itself benevolent dictators. "We are doing this for the public good." Whenever I read that, I am prepared to get the tube of Vaseline ready."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.
