  • So Trump's Religious Advisory Board contains a diverse group as it pertains to Mormonism. On one hand it contains Richard Land, a prominent Baptist who has reached out to Mormon's in a significant way over the past few years. He's even spoken at BYU. Then it also has Robert Jeffress who calls Mormonism a cult. It also has James Dobson who has been a dickhead to Mormons and Ralph Reed who has defended us. Mike Huckabee is also an advisor and he's been uncool to Mormons. Anyways. Vichy Republicans.

    • And this is the better alternative others are pointing to for president:

Sure she isn't as flamboyant as the Donald, but she is just as bad.

You are right. You and Trump have a ton of things in common.

Hillary would be president in this scenario, so that fact would make Ecuador and Hong Kong the places to check out and not the U.S.

But not more expensive. And after Hillary is done with us, many will be more costly. One matter you forget, the US is perhaps the fifth most taxed nation worldwlde. HK retains only 10-15% of your income. A number of other nations are in the realm of normalcy. We are approaching Nordic ranges in terms of confiscatory tax schemes. By the time Hillary is finished raising rates, why bother working?

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

How do you "check out" of politics being a citizen of the US?

In a foreign country, one can be expected to just ignore politics for most purposes. In the US, if you are reasonably educated, you may not do so. Additionally, top marginal income tax rates are confiscatory, whereas in most other countries they are less than all but for or five worldwide. The economic reasons for staying in the US are diminishing. Let's say, you have a small amount of change, and purchase some property in Costa Rica. You can easily live off of Social Security, with anything extra allowing for travel and adding to one's meager assets.

In the US, you would live like crap off of Social Security and eat away any savings you might have. There is very little economic reason to stay in the US after retirement. Thailand is also a distinct possibility. Some are even speculating about Vietnam.

Aside from most of my nest egg in the TSP, my retirement is 100% taxable to the US. It won't matter where I live, I'll still have to pay those taxes.

Usually that's true. If you have carried interests overseas, or have interests held overseas where you haven't received payment on them, there are ways around this. I am being vague for a reason.

It's basically an Evangelical advisory board, made up of a bunch of money-changers.

Topper is hitting this one out of the park! "Reasonably educated" us citizens can't ignore politics? U.s. tax rate is higher than every other country, save 4 or 5? He's retiring to a communist country to avoid high taxation? He thinks Hong Kong he'd be able to live off of social security?

Topper may be the best troll on this board.

I would especially love to hear more about the tax rates, and how they are higher now than before when they were higher.

Costa Rica ain't what it used to be. Goods cost as much, if not more, there now than they do here. Services are still cut rate, but goods are ridiculous there. I hear Nicaragua is how Costa Rica used to be, but, Nicaragua ain't Costa Rica, culturally.

Nicaragua also has a very socialist leader. Could be a real option for Topper, if Vietnam does not pan out.
