Why do we elect people that aren't very qualified or intelligent to public office? Where are all the doctors, scientists and engineers in congress and in state offices?
Congress has over 500 members, yet only 17 doctors. It also has 6 engineers, 1 physicist, 1 chemist and 1 microbiologist.
What else does it have:
17 farmers
11 ranchers
7 social workers
7 accountants
1 comedian
2 football players
It also has a restaurant owner, real estate agent, auctioneer, car dealership owner, construction worker, paper mill worker, insurance agent and funeral home owner. Where are all the economists, doctors, engineers and scientists? Why do we elect people that aren't very well qualified?
Using my own State (Utah) as an example, we have a retired high school teacher and a college football player in the US House of Representatives. Also from Utah, riding a wave of popularity is Mia Love, a former stewardess. How are these people qualified? Why do they get elected? It seems their main qualification is that they're popular.
