Too many Romney commercials during the Olympics... that's my guess.

They just said on the news that some or all of the wounded (they are now saying 9 wounded, no one dead but the perpetrator) were shot by police trying to take this guy down.

Dang. I was just at the Empire State Building with my wife a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds like this is now confirmed. All the people shot were hit by police bullets, except the victim of the gunman and the gunman himself. Let me ask, if several of New York's highly trained finest cannot subdue a single gunman without shooting 9 innocent bystanders, how does the argument go about armed citizens being able to thwart crime? And if the concentration of police near the Empire State Building is not a deterrent.... I'm not arguing rights here, just saying that I think those arguments might have gotten obliterated.

I don't think people are arguing that citizens should thwart a crime. I think people are concerned about defending themselves. In a densely populated area such as NY there are policemen seconds away most of the time. However, how do you handle issues in small towns or out in the countryside. I can guarantee you that my inlaws would never give up their guns (which are used mostly for hunting) as they don't have a policeman sitting two blocks away.

I guess I'm just saying that a gun ban in NY might make more sense than one in podunk Montana.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

To be fair, 6 of the wounded were from ricochets or bullet fragments. There were only two officers invovled in the shooting. And the officers did indeed kill the gunman.

Of course they are. Every time there is a shooting we hear a chorus of voices saying things could have been prevented if there was someone packing heat.
