This Buzzfeed article and the accompanying images are incredibly disturbing. It appears that the hospital is U.S. funded and Afghan run and oversight has been lax, to say the least. The conditions were described in a congressional hearing as Auschwitz-like and after seeing the photos it's not hard to see why. Patients starving to death, feces on the floor and people with untreated maggot invested wounds. Religious fanaticism and a perpetually corrupt government seem to make a graceful exit from Afghanistan an impossibility.
