  • If only Sarah Palin had run ...

    http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/29/opinio...l?c=homepage-t

The Republican presidential primary hasn't exactly overflowed with talent. In December, it was a roll call of the undesirable Right: Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, Paul, Perry, Huntsman and Bachmann -- a list so long and bizarre that Count Dracula could have slipped in on the end and no one would have noticed. Except, as the citizens of Chicago will tell you, the dead always vote Democrat.

Now, we're down to a final three, discounting Ron Paul, who, I'm guessing, is only staying in the race to collect air miles. Although the talent pool has shrunk, it has gotten no deeper. As Mitt Romney suffers defeat after defeat at the hands of Rick Santorum, whose chances of winning this thing aren't high, his negatives mount up, and the president looks stronger by the day. The Republican Party is divided and in danger of becoming out of touch.

It didn't have to be this way. If Sarah Palin had entered the contest, I'd hypothesize two alternative realities. One, she'd have the nomination sewn up by now. Two, she'd be running even in the polls with the president.

That is some funny stuff. Its always fun when Brits and Russians want to play pundit.

Timothy Stanley is a historian at Oxford University and blogs for Britain's Daily Telegraph. He is the author of the new book "The Crusader: The Life and Times of Pat Buchanan."
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

        Double

This is not at all good for Oxcoug.

Hold on, I take it back. Stanley is an amazing satirist. Some of his better lines:
        • For starters, she has none of Newt Gingrich's intellectual hubris.
        • She's also more disciplined than Santorum.
        • Palin is aggressively authentic.
        • Palin was well-vetted by the press in 2008 and has nothing left to say or do that would surprise us.
        • Palin has the character and reputation necessary to break out of the Republican Party's demographic prison.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

          forgot one...

Contrary to the media narrative, even at her most accident-prone, Palin has always been a classy, well-choreographed performer.

I wasn't aware she could read or memorize basic facts about, say, the ride of Paul Revere before retelling the story at a public, press-covered event, let alone "choreograph a performance." She's pretty aggressively... something else.

It isn't easy for me to remove someone from my "I support" list. I still think Richard Nixon got a screw job.

However, Sarah Palin has not only dropped from that list, she is now on my "shit list".

Who else is on this list? This would make a good thread.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread. That isn't my style.

Maybe we can start such a thread someday.

"My Shit List" would be a great thread title.

To get back on track, I was done supporting that lightweight Palin when she quit in the middle of her term.

I'm vetting this poseur bitch this second - important note - he claims to be a "historian and writer" at Oxford but claims no faculty or college affiliation - this is highly unusual for anyone at Oxford. There are a handful of university wide lecturers and then nearly everyone else is a "lecturer" a "fellow" (junior or senior) with a specific host college affiliation.

That he mentions no such affiliation in his "about me" suggests to me that he lives in Oxford and does some occasional guest lecturing with an affiliated institute but isn't formally a fellow w/ any college or the university.

                      http://www.timothystanley.co.uk/about-me.html

This bio from the Guardian lists him as a research fellow (a fairly low rung in the UK academic world) at Royal Holloway College at the University of London - a relatively shit institution, and makes no mention of Oxford.

And finally this listing calls him a "research fellow at the University of Oxford" but again mentions no college affiliation, which is extremely unusual.
