Yes, the NSA owns all your digital life. When the NSA was created its charter explicitly prohibited spying on US citizens. Look how quickly that has changed. Hopefully, this will drive the adoption of strong encryption for things like end-to-end cell phone conversations and email. Right now a lot of the information we exchange is largely unencrypted. For example, cell phone conversations are encrypted to the tower but the NSA apparently has wire taps in AT&T's, Verizon's, etc. telecom centers where it is unencrypted. IMO, the cell phone conversation should be encrypted all the way end-to-end (from the cell phone to the remote cell phone). When this happens the NSA will have a much harder time capturing our conversations because they will need to determine the unique encryption key used for every cell phone conversation. The adoption of strong encryption to protect our digital conversations would make this NSA data center in Utah worthless.

Speaking of the adoption of strong encryption, when is CUF going to support SSL (i.e. an URL that starts with HTTPS)? Right now our passwords are being sent unencrypted.

It is interesting that it costs $5 billion to build a 700,000 sq ft shopping mall (plus condo space) in SLC. However, it only cost the NSA $2 billion to build a 1,000,000 sq ft state-of-the-art data center with military grade security that will consume as much electricity as all of SLC put together. Of course, this is a topic that belongs on a different thread.

It's not that interesting. The NSA building is in Bluffdale. The CC Mall is in downtown SLC.

My friend has been one of the project managers on the construction of this thing. Some impressive stuff in terms of physical protection and cooling.
